??? The Interview Snapshot: A Template for Managing Fieldwork Interviews can be so energizing. The co-presence with a user or customer, the depth of feedback, the flexibility. It's no wonder UX pros love this method. ...then it comes time to organize, analyze, synthesize, and shareout ?? As with so many other aspects of user research, breaking processes into steps, and steps into discrete chunks, can help complexity feel more manageable. That's what my colleague and friend Roberta D. did to create this customizable and repeatable template. Here's how it works: 1?? Adapt it for your specific interview type (generative, evaluative, etc.) 2?? Have it open alongside your in-session note-taking method 3?? Post-session, add key details like questions, takeaways, or quotes 4?? Repeat, creating a new snapshot for each and every interview session ?? Why do this? If your in-session notes (or the transcription you're recording) are for the nitty-gritty details, the snapshot is, well, a quick look at the session. It should be a glanceable way for you to remember all the most important things, like user stage, what happened, and anything memorable that will help with analysis. Together, the snapshots from your study can speed up your time-to-insight...it also is an accessible, manageable artifact for stakeholders to clue them in on what you're learning (think the appetizer before your main-course deliverable). ?? ?? COMING SOON: A new partnership with our friends at Lookback. Next month, you’ll be able to recruit User Interviews participants directly into usability tests and interviews, without ever leaving Lookback. Long-time users will know that in 2022, we launched the first version of our Lookback integration that made it a lot easier to set up and track unmoderated tests. Since then, we’ve supported over 6,000 research sessions. This next iteration will fully embed our panel in Lookback, meaning you can do all your set up, targeting, and screening within Lookback. We’re thrilled to be bringing our two tools closer together and making it easier than ever for Lookback’s customers to recruit high-quality participants, fast. Stay tuned for a launch announcement next month. In the meantime, learn more about our recruitment API https://lnkd.in/eRBkMupc

How to plan for UX Research w/ stakeholder interviews ?? We think interviewing stakeholders is an absolute *must* in the research process — the insights you gain from these conversations will inform everything from the?research plan?you write to the?methods you use?to the way you?report your findings. Here's the when, why, and how on conducting effective stakeholder interviews: 1?? The when and why of conducting internal stakeholder interviews Stakeholder interviews are an important tool in the early stages of product development, when you’re trying to define your objectives and create a research plan. These check-ins can help keep everybody on the same page, make sure your research is on the right track, generate new ideas, and gather any additional information the project may need. 2?? How to conduct internal stakeholder interviews 1. Clarify your own research goals As with any research, the very first thing you need to do is to?figure out your goals—what do you hope to learn from your stakeholders? 2. Identify stakeholders Anyone whose job will be impacted by your research is a stakeholder, regardless of seniority or job title. 3. Define your timeline, budget, and interview schedule Once you know the scope of your interview process, you can finalize how much time you’ll spend on interviews.?In most cases, interviews can be conducted by phone or video. 4. Create a moderator guide What interview questions might you ask to get the information you need to satisfy the goals of your stakeholder research? Prepare a moderator guide with a list of questions to ask stakeholders. 5. Prepare for the interview Before the interview, send the interviewee a list of types of questions you intend to ask. This will let them get their thoughts in order ahead of time, which can save both of you time, and may help you go deeper during the interview itself. 6. Flex your interviewing skills Make sure to give them your full attention, be responsive, and always aim to dig deeper with thoughtful follow-up questions. 7. Transcribe your interviews Use a transcription tool or service to get your interview recordings transcribed for analysis and reference. If you took notes during the interview, transcribe them as soon after the interview as possible, while the conversation is still fresh in your mind. 8. Analyze, synthesize, and share your findings Your objective is for anyone on your project team—even those who never spoke to any of the interviewees—to have full access to the insights you gleaned from talking to stakeholders. The key thing is to identify patterns in feedback from participant to participant.
