Aftershock II has officially become the highest and fastest amateur rocket of all time! Following its successful launch and recovery on October 20, 2024, data from the on-board avionics unit was collected and analyzed to reconstruct the rocket’s flight path. After a thorough internal review, the maximum altitude was determined to be 470,400 ft, with a top speed of 5,283 ft/s (Mach 5.5). This achievement is the result of 20 years of relentless engineering effort by hundreds of students—alumni and current—and we want to thank everyone who has contributed to this effort and supported us along the way! USCRPL’s mission is to explore next-generation space exploration technologies in an amateur, student-driven context.
关于我们
We are the USC Rocket Propulsion Laboratory, the first undergraduate rocketry group to send a rocket to space. We pride ourselves on designing and building almost every part of our rocket in-house. We also design and build necessary tooling when we’re able to, alleviating the need to purchase specific and expensive infrastructure. USCRPL exposes students to practical experience within a lab setting that is not taught in a classroom setting. Students involved in our projects have an opportunity to tailor their engineering skills before they enter the engineering workforce. USCRPL prepares its members very well for internships and employment due to extensive practical and hands-on experience.
