Human trafficking is a global crisis, but its true scale remains unknown. While awareness has increased over the past 25 years, the number of individuals affected by human trafficking is still unclear, with estimates ranging from 27 to 50 million. This uncertainty fuels doubts about the severity of the issue and the need for adequate survivor support. Accurate data is essential for effective anti-trafficking efforts and ensuring the right interventions are in place. In our latest policy brief, USCRI Senior Policy Analyst Aaron Nodjomian-Escajeda discusses the distinctions between reporting, detection, and the prevalence of human trafficking cases, while highlighting the critical need to support programs that serve survivors. To adapt to a changing climate, increasing numbers of people will be on the move. Although current legal frameworks have significant gaps, initiatives across the Americas have sought to protect people displaced due to climate-related environmental disasters. This conversation will bring together experts from Central America, Colombia, and the United States to analyze legal responses to climate displacement in the Americas. It will explore how the law can protect people forced to leave their homes due to climate-related phenomena, such as rising sea levels, droughts, and natural disasters, as well as the situation of populations that cannot or prefer not to migrate. The webinar will be held in both English and Spanish. On Veteran’s Day, we stand in deep gratitude and respect for the brave people who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces. We honor their courage, dedication, and unwavering commitment to protecting the freedoms that make our nation a beacon of hope and opportunity. At USCRI, we work each day to support immigrants and refugees as they rebuild their lives and contribute to the vibrancy of this country. Many of those we serve know firsthand the price of conflict, the loss of home, and the hope that guides them toward safety and stability. We are especially grateful for veterans who have defended our values of freedom, equality, and opportunity for all.

Every day, more children around the world are forced from their homes as conflicts erupt, climate shocks destroy communities, and instability undermines their futures. Many are without their parents or caregivers. In this week's Policy and Advocacy Report, Policy Analyst Victoria Walker highlights the plight of unaccompanied and separated children in East Africa and frames World Children's Day (November 20) as an opportunity to ensure all unaccompanied and separated children in migration and displacement settings are seen, heard, and included as active participants in molding their own futures.
