In June, the University of S?o Paulo (USP) launched its inaugural Youth Ambassador cohort, marking a significant expansion of the Durex x USC IIGH Global Initiative on Young People’s Sexual Rights and Health. Our partnership with USP strengthens our global network of young advocates advancing sexual health and rights across borders. Keep reading to learn more about what they have been up to, and make sure to follow the USP Youth Ambassadors on Instagram and TikTok @DireitosSexuaisUSP. In less than five months, USP Youth Ambassadors have: ??Collaborated with the condom brand Olla to learn the foundations in how to create engaging and impactful digital content. ??Partnered with Fellows from the IIGH Sexual Rights for Social Change Academy to learn about advocacy campaigns and the intersections of climate and sexual and reproductive health and rights. ???Engaged audiences by creating compelling social media content on sexual rights and health. ??Built lasting partnerships with other USP student organizations to advance on the ground prevention initiatives. USP Youth Ambassadors are also taking action beyond the digital space! They made a splash at the Peruada Festival and are now preparing for something bigger - the Fazendo arte com preven??o festival. This USP-hosted celebration will bring together hundreds of young people from across S?o Paulo, uniting the arts and creative interventions with sexual health and rights.

?Our faculty member Goleen Samari, PhD, contributed to a new report from The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine which looks to advance the state of knowledge on the impact of women’s empowerment and associated population dynamics on socioeconomic development. ??Women’s empowerment, population dynamics, and socioeconomic development have been studied extensively from a variety of disciplinary perspectives. However, attempts to reconcile these perspectives and apply a holistic view to the relationships among these concepts have been rare, and this lack of consensus limits the extent to which these concepts can be applied toward accomplishing global health and development goals. ??The new report looks to develop a conceptual framework describing these dynamics and setting an agenda for future policy-relevant research and data collection. ?
