A Legacy of the USC Mexican American Alumni Association
关于我们
More Than Scholarships The USC Latino Alumni Association (OFFICIAL) is one of the nation’s leading Latino alumni organizations, devoted to the academic advancement and development of USC students that are committed to the Latino community. The association is made up of USC students, alumni and friends, working together to provide support, leadership training, service opportunities and networking. The association is a legacy of the USC Mexican American Alumni Association, which was founded in 1973. Our name was changed in 2011 to better reflect the broad reach of the association and commitment to USC students who are committed to the Latino . The USC Latino Alumni Association’s mission is two-fold: To provide scholarship assistance for the academic development and advancement of USC students who demonstrate financial need or merit and show a commitment to the Latino community. To support the overall advancement of the University of Southern California by engaging all alumni for life, building a culture of philanthropy among the Trojan Family, and being the representative voice for all of USC’s Latino alumni. LAA holds a number of annual fundraising events, providing opportunities for our alumni to reconnect with one another and to meet current scholars. Funds raised go towards scholarships, and our endowment fund is currently at $6.7 million, which is carefully managed to ensure that we will be able to provide scholarships to deserving students for generations to come. Each year, we award 200 partial-tuition scholarships of up to $5,000 each to outstanding undergraduate and graduate students at USC. Since our founding, we have awarded more than $22.4 in scholarship support to nearly 9.4 k students. *Disclosure-Content that includes videos, photographs, opinions and links to content outside of this channel do not necessarily represent USC LAA's opinions. Welcome home Miguel R. Aguallo!! We look forward to continue your role with USC LAA's Young Leaders Council! Fight On! #TrojansInTheMilitary #ServingOurNation #Leadership #TeamBuilders
I recently came home from a 10-month deployment to the Middle East where I served as an Engineer Officer with the 579th Engineer Battalion. I’ve had a chance to reflect and identify operational lessons that are relevant for all leaders, whether that be in the military or Corporate America. Serving in two roles under the Operations Staff Section (S3) - one as an Engineer Liaison and the other as the Battle Captain - I learned key lessons in operations and decision-making. These experiences illuminated the impact that effective procedures and processes can have on an organization, particularly on achievement of mission. I learned firsthand how implementing routine tactics can deliver timely and accurate information to the Command Team, who can then make informed decisions on the battlefield. These lessons can be applied to business organizations as well. I plan to carry these lessons with me during my next military assignment and upon my return to Google. Here are a few that resonated with me: ? ·Implement a Team Decision-Making Process: Wargaming is a term we use in the military to discuss our Course of Action (COA) development and analysis. In this process, teams not only develop several COAs when a situation arises, but they also develop the enemy’s reaction and their team’s counteraction to the enemy action. This process is “war gamed” through each COA and provides the Command Team the ability to see the primary effects of each COA, and to identify any secondary and tertiary effects that need specific attention. This has proved to be a powerful process that helps leadership see the battlefield in a more strategic and holistic manner. ? ·Develop a Common Operating Picture (COP) of the Battlefield: Allowing the team to see a common view of the operation is paramount for success. Having the most current and accurate data in the COP allows for quality input from the team and easier alignment. Most importantly, the COP enables streamlined decisions by the Command Team and undoubtedly provides teams with a winning-edge. ? ·Create Team Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Systems: The regular practice of team procedures and systems creates valuable efficiencies within a team. It spurs a culture of open and steady communication and sets teams’ expectations when a steady battle rhythm is formed. Additionally, developing specific procedures to track tasks, schedules and movement of the operation allows leaders to identify opportunities and threats to the team, as well as resource constraints. This is powerful tool that provides the team with operational clarity, especially when chaos is present. These few operational lessons have helped shape my leadership philosophy and I’m excited to apply these lessons as part of my return to Google. ?I am feeling incredibly grateful for the opportunity to serve and for all of the lessons gathered overseas. ?I look forward to reconnecting with many of you soon. #GoArmy #Google #OperationalLessons?
