Congratulations to MSDMM graduate Darius Boamah on turning his capstone project into a series. ???? Check out the first episode of San Diego's Pickup Collective below! ?
Over the past year, I have been working on a passion project that began while I was completing my Masters program at the University of Southern California. This stemmed from my capstone project in the USC MS in Digital Media Management program. This passion project is called Urban Football. Its goal is to highlight and spread awareness about free organized soccer groups in San Diego. Since its inception a year ago, I have met awesome people, traveled to amazing places, and witnessed the power of soccer in San Diego. Today, I released the first episode of a series about San Diego's free soccer groups. Starting a series was always the goal for Urban Football. However, I felt it would not be successful coming from an outside perspective, which is why I spent the last year becoming part of this vast community. I've played soccer my whole life and can firmly say that I have not had as much fun playing as I do now. These communities across San Diego County are filled with amazing people, with amazing stories, who do amazing things, and I'm so glad to be a part of it. So, now, I am releasing this first episode as a part of the San Diego Street Soccer Collective. I would love for you to take a look at what I've been working on. Always inspiring to see our students applying classroom learnings to their professional ventures. Keep up the amazing work! Fight on?
I haven’t made a dedicated post about my small business yet, so I figured this is the time to share! In 2023, I decided to play around with nail products and supplies. I started applying them myself and eventually got tired of sitting at my desk for hours, so I transitioned to making press-on nails! Since then, I’ve made a small business out of it. I get to create tiny pieces of art for people to enjoy and wear. Sometimes, I’ve burnt myself out with the constant comparison to others, but at the end of the day, I’m keeping myself busy by doing something that brings me joy. Especially during times of uncertainty or when I’m freaking out about my future, sitting down and creating brings me back to reality. I’ve also applied much of what I’ve learned from the USC MS in Digital Media Management to my business. I hope that this year, I can grow and continue doing what I love! Here are some pictures of what I've created so far!

As a DMM alum, Sydney Lake is taking storytelling to new heights—literally. Sydney, recently promoted to Associate Editor at Fortune magazine, credits the Online Master of Digital Media Management (DMM) program for sharpening her multimedia skills and inspiring her to explore new avenues in digital media. Sydney reflects on her journey: "Throughout the program, I learned how stories can be told across various formats and how to engage audiences in meaningful ways. My capstone project pushed me to combine my passion with strategy—something I now apply daily in my work." While at Fortune, Sydney worked on a multimedia story covering Bark Air, the world’s first airline for dogs. Not only did she report and write the piece, but she also captured compelling visuals and video content during a 3,400-mile flight with her golden retriever, Lulu. "The DMM program gave me the confidence to approach projects like this and taught me the importance of meeting audiences where they are, whether through video, social, or longer features." Sydney’s capstone, The Paw Print, is an online publication dedicated to dog health and wellness—a project inspired by her professors and her passion for dogs. "The support and mentorship I received from my professors, especially Professor Anika Jackson, made all the difference. They encouraged me to pursue my passions while pushing me to excel in digital media strategy." Sydney’s story exemplifies how the DMM program equips graduates to thrive in dynamic media roles and beyond! Check out Sydney’s full story here: https://buff.ly/4h6AdRx
