Recently in Huntsville, Alabama the HON Aprille Ericsson, Ph.D. the assistant secretary of defense for science and technology had the opportunity to visit the U.S. Army DEVCOM Aviation & Missile Center. At DEVCOM Dr. Ericsson met with the recipients of the 2025 Applied Research for the Advancement of S&T Priorities (ARAP) Program award. The Hypersonic Infrared Target Sensing (HITS) team was selected as the recipient. The award is a three-year, $45-million project involving the collaboration of more than 50 federal scientists and engineers across the military service labs. "Investments into our military labs and facilities are imperative for the DoD to invest in technological solutions that attract and retain the future workforce,” said?Dr. Aprille Ericsson. “The ARAP funding for the HITS project will support our DoD lab researchers, graduate and postdoctoral researchers on-site and at academic partners labs, thus growing the DoD's depth in multiple emerging research areas." Dr. Ericsson also congratulated the awardees last month at a Pentagon award ceremony.

Thanks to Flavia Camargos Pereira, North America Editor, Shephard Group for writing about ICT's Center for Body Computing and its #LightningPlatform, a wearable digital health and human performance software solution. EXTRACT: "Warfighters from the US Army, Marine Corps (USMC) and Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) recently tested a wearable digital health and human performance software solution to individually measure service members’ health and enable them to?improve their performance. Named Lightning Platform, it is a cyber-secure and custom-built mobile app developed by the Center for Body Computing (CBC) at the?USC Institute for Creative Technologies (ICT),?in partnership with the US Army and the DoD. It can connect to a variety of body-worn sensors including Apple Watch, glucose monitors and medical-grade wearable devices enabling the platform to detect, record and display real-time and highly accurate measurements of the soldier." Extremely happy and grateful to share that I’m starting a new position as a Software Developer at the USC Institute for Creative Technologies, under the guidance of Dava Casoni . In this role, I’ll be focusing on both frontend and backend development for projects with the Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division (NAWCAD), is a research and development organization under the Naval Air Systems Command, focused on testing and evaluating air warfare systems for the United States Navy. This opportunity marks an exciting step forward in my career, allowing me to hone my technical skills while collaborating with an incredible team to turn innovative ideas into reality. I’m eager to embrace this new journey and look forward to the growth and opportunities it will bring, both personally and professionally.
