In a historic day for the University of Southern California and the USC Viterbi School of Engineering we inaugurated this morning a spectacular new building, the Dr. Allen and Charlotte Ginsburg Computational Hall (GCS) that will house the USC Thomas Lord Department of Computer Science. Made possible by the generosity of Dr. Allen Ginsburg and Charlotte Ginsburg, this 7-story #LEED #Platinum building will complement with its physical presence the new USC School of Advanced Computing, created earlier this year as part of the USC Viterbi School of Engineering. It is one in a brilliant #trifecta of #convergent #science and #engineering, as it is adjacent to the Irani Hall for #MolecularBiology and the Michelson Hall for #ConvergentBiosciences. But it will also serve to enable all our endeavors, from #Sustainability to #Health to #Security and #Infrastructure to the #JoyofLife, since today #advancedcomputing empowers all disciplines. In this journey, our goals are to advance #humancentric computing and to also help endow our students with both outstanding technical #competence and outstanding #character, thus leading to #trustworthiness, sorely missing in our world today. Helping inaugurate GCS were Suzanne Nora Johnson, chair of the USC Board of Trustees, USC President Carol Folt, Gaurav Sukhatme, Director of the new USC School of Advanced Computing, and Nenad Medvidovic, CS Chair. We are grateful for this new uplifting page in the more than 119-year history book of USC Viterbi School of Engineering, opened at the #20th #anniversary of the School's naming.
