Location Level 1-2, Gallery Wall ??? About the Piece Oil on panel ???? About the Artist Sarah Norsworthy is an artist born in Anchorage, Alaska. She earned her B.A. in Studio Art at Dartmouth College in 2002 with a minor in English, and her MFA at University of Washington in Painting and Drawing in 2015. She was a staff artist at the Vermont Studio Center in 2007-2008. For three years she taught art to adults with disabilities in Fayetteville, Arkansas prior to her return to Seattle for graduate school. She currently lives in Seattle where she works as a seamstress/tailor, teaches art classes to adults with disabilities as a founding member of the non-profit Art for All, and teaches drawing and painting at North Seattle College in Continuing Education. She is represented by studio e gallery in Seattle. Cedar Club also includes beautifully appointed locker rooms with towel service, showers, day-use lockers and more. To join Cedar Club, tenants will need to fill out the waiver on the USBC app and access will be added. ?? Cedar Club will be open 4:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., seven days a week. Silent symphony in a pacific northwestern forest, 2023 by Stephanie Hsie & Karen Chung ?? ?? Details Clay dyed with mason stain ?? Location Level 1-2, Gallery Wall ??? About the Piece A collection of ceramic turkey tail and phoenix oyster mushrooms, both commonly found in Pacific Northwest forests. Built by hand from clay colored with mason stain, the mushrooms hang on the wall to mimic the way they grow in the wild–out of trunks of conifers as well as fallen logs and tree stumps. The organic shapes and textures juxtapose the exaggerated size and color palette of the sculptures to invoke the tangible yet undeniably magical nature of our mushroom friends whose quiet symphony underground helps forests throughout the Pacific Northwest thrive. ???? About the Artists Karen Chung and Stephanie Hsie are part of Ceremony Studio, a small ceramics studio based in Seattle, WA, and Las Vegas, NV. Hsie and Chung met each other in a community center ceramics studio in 2018 and partnered on what they thought would be a one-time sale of hand-thrown ceramic teacups. They, with their studio partner Corey Gutch, continue to work as a collective to create small-batch, handmade ceramics for your daily rituals. Ceremony’s functional pieces can be found across stores in three states, and in homes across the country.
