Last week, scientists and engineers from ATEC attended the Mentor Night event at Aberdeen High School and met rising seniors from the Science and Mathematics Academy (SMA) to discuss potential projects and areas of interest. ATEC mentors, volunteers and fosters good scientific methodologies for senior students while developing the next generation of scientists to encourage young minds to pursue a college/career in STEM! The SMA at Aberdeen High School is a school-within-a-school magnet program of 200 students that provides academically talented students with educational experiences that integrate STEM beyond the traditional advanced program. Admission to this rigorous, four-year program is by competitive application based on students’ prior academic success and interest and motivation in science and mathematics. This program teaches students the skills needed to be leaders in the area of research. A cornerstone of the SMA’s program is Science, Research, and Technology (SRT), which is a signature series of courses taken by all 9th through 12th grade students. SRT focuses on teaching students how to use problem solving skills and technology to conduct research.

One of the best ways to start your day is by getting in a solid workout! This morning, MG Gaydon and CSM Smith joined Soldiers from ATEC HQ, the Army Evaluation Center, and Aberdeen Test Center for the Army Combat Fitness Test, also known as ACFT. ?? The ACFT events include a three-repetition maximum deadlift, standing power throw, hand release push-ups, sprint-drag-carry, plank and a two-mile run. ?? ?? The ACFT is the assessment for the physical domain of the Army's Holistic Health and Fitness Program designed to better assess the physical demands Soldiers face in combat. #USArmy #ArmyLife

At the U.S. Army Aberdeen Test Center, Accelerated Vehicle Durability Testing (AVDT) is now part of the road ahead for the Department of Defense. This set of hardware-in-the-loop simulators will accelerate the acquisition process for military vehicles – reducing testing time, costs and risks – to deliver data that informs decisions for the next generation of effective and lethal systems to our warfighters. #TruthinTesting
