Advancing U.S. economic cooperation in APEC, fostering economic growth & prosperity in the Asia-Pacific. APEC Host: 2023
关于我们
This is the official page of the U.S. APEC team at the U.S. Department of State. The United States works with the private sector, civil society, and other stakeholders through the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum to advance a free, fair, and open economic policy agenda in the Asia Pacific that benefits U.S. workers, businesses, and families. Spanning both sides of the Pacific, the 21 APEC member economies account for approximately 47 percent of global trade, and the region is the destination for more than 60 percent of U.S. goods exports. Under the Theme: "Creating a Resilient and Sustainable Future for All" the United States is hosting APEC in 2023 focusing on three policy priorities: Innovative, Interconnected, and Inclusive. We are working with a diverse set of stakeholders to develop and execute an impactful policy agenda that advances issues such as trade and investment, the digital economy, and sustainable and inclusive economic growth.?

Low-Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite technology is an alternative to traditional broadband services that has the potential to narrow the digital divide and increase broadband internet access in unserved and underserved areas and communities, ultimately providing sustained economic benefits to communities across many #APEC economies. To expand the understanding of LEO satellite and the regulatory environments that support LEO application, The United States led the APEC Workshop on Expanding Broadband Access through Low-Earth Orbit (LEO) Satellite Communications Systems at the APEC Telecommunication and Information Working Group in Mexico City, Mexico. The workshop enabled economies to discuss solutions for a robust regulatory framework, where they offered perspectives on what regulatory changes are needed to realize the economic benefits of #LEO. Additionally, this workshop equipped policymakers, regulators, and civil society stakeholders with a framework for proposing and implementing needed regulatory or other changes in an economy to allow #LEO satellite services to offer broadband internet access to broader communities, particularly to underserved areas and remote communities. Thank you to Jai Nair for your exceptional leadership, and for the support and participation of Department of Information and Communications Technology - Philippines, Instituto Federal de Telecomunicaciones, USAID, Bureau of Cyberspace and Digital Policy, Amazon, Amazon Project Kuiper, and Internet Society!!

A big thank you to Deputy Under Secretary Diane Farrell and our U.S. Department of Commerce colleagues for their participation at the APEC Perú 2024 Small and Medium Enterprises Ministerial Meeting (SMEMM) in #Pucallpa and the Business Ethics for APEC SMEs Initiative in #Lima!
Small and Medium Enterprises (#SMEs) serve as the backbone of #Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (#APEC), with 97% of businesses across APEC economies identifying as SMEs. #ICYMI: International Trade Administration (#ITA) Deputy Under Secretary (DUS) Diane Farrell is fresh from her trip to #Peru, where she represented the United States at the APEC Perú 2024 SME Ministerial Meeting (#SMEMM) in #Pucallpa and the Business Ethics for APEC SMEs Initiative in #Lima. During the SMEMM, DUS Farrell spoke about how the Business Ethics for APEC SMEs Initiative mitigates corruption risks and supports a level playing field for SMEs. In addition, she highlighted the United States’ ongoing work to support #womenseconomicempowerment through enhancing their participation in #crossborder #ecommerce and their access to #globalvaluechains. Making sure SMEs are represented on an international stage makes a huge difference in creating greater #opportunity and #economicgrowth. It will continue to be a top priority for ITA, as we look ahead to #SouthKorea’s APEC Host Year in 2025.
