关于我们
The USAID Global Health Supply Chain Program–Procurement and Supply Management (GHSC-PSM) project connects technical solutions, experts, and proven commercial processes to promote efficient and cost-effective health supply chains worldwide. Our goal is to ensure uninterrupted supplies of health commodities to save lives and to create a healthier future for all. The project directly supports five global health areas of importance to the U.S. government: ? The U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief to help reach the global 90-90-90 HIV/AIDS testing, treatment, and viral load suppression targets ? The U.S. President’s Malaria Initiative to reduce malaria deaths and substantially decrease malaria morbidity, towards the long-term goal of elimination ? USAID’s population and reproductive health program to ensure that key reproductive health commodities are available for safe and reliable family planning ? USAID’s maternal, newborn, and child health program to help prevent child and maternal deaths ? Other public health threats as they emerge, with support for Zika and Ebola at this time Working across Africa, Asia, Central America, and the Caribbean, we operate in some of the world’s most challenging environments to ensure that lifesaving health supplies reach those most in need. The project purchases and delivers health commodities, offers comprehensive technical assistance to strengthen national supply chain systems, and provides global supply chain leadership. Since our launch, we have procured commodities for more than 50 countries, established 30 field offices, and provided technical assistance in supply chain functions in 40 countries.

Reflections from #GHSCS2024 ? Earlier this month, GHSC-PSM participated in the 2024 Global Health Supply Chain Summit in Lagos, Nigeria. We discussed and learned about different aspects of the #ValueChain, including innovative solutions to make the health supply chain more resilient and sustain improvements. Check out this video where our IDIQ Director, Judith Heichelheim, and Strategy and Design Technical Director, Barry Chovitz, MA, recount their key learnings from the Summit. https://lnkd.in/d98PGihz

Amid a surge in malaria cases in #Rwanda, USAID Global Health Supply Chain Program-Procurement and Supply Management, with support from USAID Rwanda, has responded with emergency procurement efforts of 375,960 Artemether Lumefantrine 20/120mg and the distribution of 427,850 long-lasting insecticide-treated bed nets in western province hot spots. Together, we can combat this public health challenge! ?? #MalariaResponse #HealthForAll

At #TropMed24, the Annual Meeting of the American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene (ASTMH) our team dove into inspiring discussions on the fight to eliminate #malaria! Here are some of their key takeaways: ?? Forecasting for malaria commodities revealed critical gaps between needs and resources, driven by rising cases in Sub-Saharan Africa and drug resistance. Promising solutions like Multiple First-Line Treatments and new drug combinations are emerging but require stronger policies, funding, and supply chain systems to scale. ?? Malaria surveillance highlighted the power of robust data systems to identify hotspots and track progress. Cutting-edge strategies like next-gen insecticides, vaccines, and tech-driven tools are paving the way forward. Our GHSC-PSM colleagues shared insights from supporting the U.S. President's Malaria Initiative: on optimizing malaria commodity delivery in Malawi, enhancing accountability for health commodities through data in Guinea, and strengthening community case management by community health workers in Zambia. Liberia’s Central Medical Stores (CMS) has made significant strides in enhancing its cold chain infrastructure as part of the national strategic plan. Through GHSC-PSM and a south-to-south collaboration with Zimbabwe, the CMS implemented key improvements, including: - Temperature and humidity mapping of the national warehouse aligned with WHO standards - Installation of real-time temperature monitoring devices to track and alert on excursions - Updated standard operating procedures for cold chain management - Comprehensive training for warehouse personnel These efforts have strengthened CMS’s ability to safely store both cold chain and ambient commodities, ensuring compliance with global best practices and safeguarding the quality of essential medicines. We are proud to support initiatives that drive sustainable improvements in #health #SupplyChains.

Our Global Supply Chain Director, Alan Pringle participated in this year’s annual Antiretrovirals (ARV) Buyer-Seller Summit in Dar es Salaam. Alan offered valuable insights from GHSC-PSM on #ARV market trends, the successful evolution of the #USAID vendor-managed solution (VMS) program, applying the latest technology to protect the integrity of the supply chain, and the progress, challenges, and opportunities in engaging the private sector. #MarketShapers Hosted by #PEPFAR, The Global Fund, and South Africa’s National Dept of Health, Alan joined a panel with Ms. Babalwa Melitafa (National Department of Health, Republic of South Africa) and Mr. Cathal Meere (The Global Fund), moderated by Mr. Daniel Kiesa (USAID). The Summit convened key stakeholders from Africa’s health sector—including policymakers, procurement agencies, pharmaceutical manufacturers, and health system representatives—to address barriers hindering reliable access to #HIV treatments and discuss market-shaping solutions to improve access to this lifesaving medicine. #EndAIDS2030 #MarketShaping Read more about how GHSC-PSM is increasing private–sector involvement in antiretroviral delivery through the vendor-managed solutions (VMS) program >>> https://lnkd.in/gm2i28QZ

Elizabeth Numero, a nurse and midwife at Liwonde Private Clinic in #Malawi, is improving lives through better stock management. Her drug store, once disorganized, is now an efficient, well-labeled pharmacy that gets #HIV patients their medicines when they need them. Thanks to training by GHSC-PSM and the Ministry of Health, Elizabeth and her colleagues learned vital skills in inventory management, record keeping, and FEFO compliance. Learn about how this training is going beyond Elizabeth's clinic and strengthening Malawi's #health system in our new story: https://lnkd.in/e6v-CHwF

It’s a wrap! At #GHSCS2024, our team had the opportunity to share innovative approaches and learnings from managing one of the largest, most complex global supply chain programs in USAID-supported countries. From presenting our strategic sourcing and market-shaping initiatives to sharing learnings from our country programs, and discussing sustainable solutions that impact the future of health supply chains, we are glad to have contributed to the incredible volume of knowledge exchanged at this year’s summit. Today, our Lab Program Director, Andres McAllister, spoke about the service level agreements PEPFAR has put in place through GHSC-PSM to encourage better availability, affordability, and maintenance of laboratory equipment for viral load testing. We’re now supporting nearly 50 countries with this work. Our Nigeria Director of Warehousing and Distribution, Mary Ameh, and Senior Program Manager, KELECHI ENWERUZO-AMAEFULE, also shared our innovative hub and spoke model for pharmaceutical and liquid waste management. Through this initiative, GHSC-PSM has supported the safe disposal of 821 tons of pharmaceutical waste and 36,430 liters of medical laboratory liquid waste. This hub-and-spoke approach protects the environment and promotes a circular economy by converting waste plastics to valuable oils and resultant waste ash to bricks (1kg of plastics producing about 700mls of oils). ? It has been a worthwhile experience at this year’s summit. Now, on to the next opportunity to learn and share!
