Today is #WorkforceWednesday! Each week, we will be highlighting a member of Team Meade that makes our base a great place for service members and civilians. Meet Gina Gopie, a human resources assistant for U.S. Army Garrison Fort George G. Meade. After she retired from the U.S. Air Force, she knew she wanted to continue working for the government in some capacity. Gopie started working for the garrison in April 2016. Her background in HR for the Air Force meant she was prepared to take the job here at Fort Meade. She loves working for the military, no matter what branch. Her average day consists of in-processing Soldiers coming from Basic Combat Training to attend Advanced Individualized Training. After AIT, Gopie processes MOS orders so the Soldier can be brought into a unit. Her favorite part of the job is working with Soldiers coming from Basic Combat Training. When working with them, she gets to give them a high standard of customer service and leave a positive impact on their service. Outside of work, she spends time with her two adult children, six grandchildren and two (soon to be three!) great-grandchildren. She enjoys cooking, baking, traveling, bingo and playing with her dog, Snickers. Interested in working at Fort Meade? ??? No one is more professional than I. I am a noncommissioned officer, a leader of Soldiers. As a noncommissioned officer, I realize that I am a member of a time honored corps, which is known as "The Backbone of the Army". Last week, Sergeant Major of the US Army Michael Weimer attended the 704th Military Intelligence Brigade NCO Induction Ceremony. During the ceremony, Weimer spoke about the responsibilities of bring a noncommissioned officer, including taking care of Soldiers and their families, living a life of a warfighter with character and developing yourself. ?? Meet Amber Petronio, a management support specialist with U.S. Army Garrison Fort George G. Meade. She served in the Air Force and after leaving, joined the federal government through the Department of Health and Human Services. With the DHHS, she served a two-year tour in the Democratic Republic of Congo. She started working for the garrison in January 2021. Petronio's typical day involves administrative and consultant work, advising garrison leadership o the accuracy and legality of requested personnel actions. This involves developing relationships with the Civilian Human Resources Service Center and management to resolve differences, tracking status of personell actions and submitting requests for personnel actions into a variety of civilian personnel information systems. Petronio's favorite part of the job is the relationships she builds with people in and outside her office. Outside of work, she spends most of her time her husband, U.S. Air Force CMSgt Brian Petronio, who is planning to retire after 24 years of service. She also has two kids, two dogs, two cats and a fish tanks. In her free time, she likes reading, creative writing, singing and dancing. Interested in working at Fort Meade?
