What is ??.??. ???????? ?????????????????????? ???????????????? ???????????????????? – ????????????? We say “???????????? ?????????? ???? ????????, ???????????? ?????? ?????????????????? ?????? ????????????????” because there are such interesting opportunities in research, development, test and evaluation, and STEM outreach occurring at the U.S. Army Aeromedical Research Laboratory. This is a short post, plus our current command video, to inform you of the USAARL basics. We hope you “Follow” USAARL to learn more about our work and if there is an opportunity for you here. USAARL has over sixty years of RDT&E experience optimizing aviator/Soldier performance, protection, safety, and casualty care in the multi-domain operational environment. We provide research-based products and recommendations in support of multiple cross-functional teams, including Future Vertical Lift and Soldier Lethality, as well as to program managers within the acquisition community, in three main areas. 1. Our ?????????????? ???????? work focuses on protecting patients during medical evacuation transport and examining ways to increase medical provider performance through evaluation of medical equipment while in flight plus providing airworthiness certification for equipment deemed safe to use in military aircraft. 2. Our ???????????? ???????????????????????? ?????? ???????????????????? research centers on Soldier injury mechanisms, human tolerance levels, injury risk mitigation technologies, and health hazards to enhance warfighter lethality, protection, and survivability for the battlefields of the future through next-generation biomechanical research. Our ???????????????????? ?????????????????????? ?????????? efforts develop innovative biomedical solutions to support, extend, and enhance the operational performance of Army aircrew, which is at the forefront of multi-domain operations aviation research. USAARL’s workforce is trained and experienced in multiple disciplines, including psychology, physiology, aviation medicine, optometry, audiology, engineering, physics, mathematics, statistics, and professional support roles, among others. USAARL has more than sixty active partnerships that enhance our efforts to maximize performance and protection while improving en route care of patients. These partnerships are across the Department of Defense, academia, industry, and non-profit organizations. USAARL is heavily invested in improving interest in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) through: tours; youth programs, like GEMS (Gains in the Education of Mathematics and Science); and, internships through programs like ORISE (Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education) and DoD HBCU/MI (Department of Defense Historically Black Colleges and Universities & Minority Serving Institutions Summer Research Internship).

"Fourth Grade to PhDs – USAARL has something for everyone.” USAARL's strategic focus is the optimization of aviator/Soldier performance, protection, safety, and casualty care in the multi-domain operational environment. USAARL provides research-based products and recommendations in support of multiple cross-functional teams, including Future Vertical Lift and Soldier Lethality, as well as to program managers within the acquisition community. Optimizing aviator/Soldier performance includes conducting research to update individual aviator/Soldier medical standards, develop pharmacological and other methods of improving and/or maintaining aviator/Soldier performance in stressful environments, and investigate means to achieve scalable autonomy capability. Optimizing aviator/Soldier protection and safety includes conducting research to update design standards for aircrew seats for improved crashworthiness, establish design standards for helmet mounted devices to mitigate chronic and acute neck injuries, and investigate methods of improving head and face protection during an aircraft mishap. Optimizing casualty care includes both research and testing efforts. Research efforts include updating patient litter crash retention designs, establishing design recommendations for patient transport systems, and investigating methods to maintain medical provider performance under stressful conditions. As the Army's primary test organization for the collection of airworthiness data related to patient care systems, USAARL tests patient handling systems, hoists, litters, and patient care equipment in support of current and future operational requirements. Home to a diverse, professional staff, USAARL increases STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) awareness and development opportunities in our various programs, including enrichment programs (STEM community outreach engagements, GEMS), internships (ORISE, HBCU/MI), and careers (research / support roles).

U. S. Army Aeromedical Research Laboratory - USAARL (Official) congratulates Sgt. 1st Class Henry Lamberth, USAARL Detachment noncommissioned officer-in-charge, on his completion of the U.S. Army Basic Airborne Course (BAC). During BAC, students spend three weeks in three phases of Airborne training: · Ground week builds individual airborne skills, which teaches students to make a parachute jump and land safely. They train on the mock door, the 34-foot (10 meter) tower, and the lateral drift apparatus. · Tower week completes individual skill training and builds team effort skills. The apparatuses used this week are the 34-foot towers, the swing landing trainer, the mock door for mass exit training, and the suspended harness. · Jump week requires successful completion of five parachute jumps with the T-11 parachute at 1,250 feet from a C-130 or C-17 aircraft. Generally, the jumps are: o??One jump with combat equipment, in which the jumper carries a modular lightweight load-carrying equipment (MOLLE) ruck with modular airborne weapons case (MWAC), and a dummy weapon. o??Three "Hollywood jumps," in that the jumper only wears the parachute and reserve parachute. o??One jump with combat equipment at nighttime. Each phase of Airborne training strengthens unit cohesion, discipline, and supervision while providing quality paratroopers throughout the force. Airborne leads the way! U. S. Army Aeromedical Research Laboratory - USAARL (Official) closed out their challenge to bring awareness to suicide prevention, with members seeking to each complete 2,200 pushups in October. The group completed a total of 13,932 pushups to raise awareness for suicide prevention. Congratulations to Dr. Blake Johnson for completing the most pushups overall, 2,422. Col. Matthew Hoefer and Chief Warrant Officer 5 Anthony Nwafor also completed 2,200 pushups before the end of October. USAARL thanks all those who participated to bring awareness to suicide prevention. U. S. Army Aeromedical Research Laboratory - USAARL (Official) has adopted a one-mile stretch of the Beaver Lake Trail, Fort Novosel, Ala., to clean-up and maintain in support of the community. The Beaver Lake Trail is completely paved and offers a rustic outdoor appeal to joggers and walkers. Most of the trail varies slightly in elevation and is shaded by trees, making it a comfortable trek through a gently rolling path.
