Fun Fact Friday: Did you know that U.S. Pipe ductile iron pipe is made from over 90% recycled content? Your old cars, washers, and scrap metal all make up the pipe that we melt every day. If a pipe is somehow not up to our quality standards, it goes right back into the mix and is melted again to make a new pipe. Not many products can be recycled over and over again like ductile iron pipe. In fact, some other pipe products are not allowed to be made from recycled content because they won't pass AWWA standards. Yesterday U.S. Pipe sponsored the lunch for the Birmingham Chapter of the AWWA Young Professionals. It was a great opportunity for young professionals in the water industry, and in college to discuss with Engineers and suppliers in the water/wastewater field. Lots of great topics and projects were discussed, and one notable topic was covered at length; the current EPA evaluation of the risks of PVC pipe and whether it should be banned.
