We are excited to share our innovative Oncology Core Education and Networking (OCEAN) program aimed at enhancing the professional development and retention of new oncology nurses. Facing the rising incidence of cancer and a shortage of experienced oncology nurses, our OCEAN program is designed to provide comprehensive support and education to new nurses entering the field. Through engaging and interactive virtual sessions, new oncology nurses gain critical skills and knowledge in 12 core areas of cancer care. The program also fosters teamwork and collaboration, making the learning experience enjoyable and effective. Devon Dickey Womack, president of The US Oncology Network, emphasizes the importance of supporting new nurses: “Our new OCEAN program fosters skills and knowledge of basic cancer care to help them successfully manage the many stresses they face.
