Farmers care deeply about their land and are interested in adopting sustainable practices, but the financial barriers to doing so are significant. Alice Crothers, a Maryland dairy farmer, shares how the cost of implementing conservation practices can be overwhelming without proper financing. Maryland is setting a new standard with the Climate Solutions Now Act, which includes a comprehensive approach to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and enhancing climate resilience. A key component of this act is the focus on natural and working lands, which play a crucial role in carbon sequestration and ecosystem health. The Healthy Soils Program is a standout initiative, providing farmers with the tools and resources to adopt practices that improve soil health, increase carbon storage, and boost agricultural productivity. This program not only supports the environment but also strengthens the economic resilience of Maryland's farming communities. These landowners have the power to unlock natural climate solutions by boosting the carbon storage power of their forests.
