关于我们
U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) mission is to protect human health and the environment. EPA works to ensure that: - Americans have clean air, land and water; - National efforts to reduce environmental risks are based on the best available scientific information; - Federal laws protecting human health and the environment are administered and enforced fairly, effectively and as Congress intended; - Environmental stewardship is integral to U.S. policies concerning natural resources, human health, economic growth, energy, transportation, agriculture, industry, and international trade, and these factors are similarly considered in establishing environmental policy; - All parts of society--communities, individuals, businesses, and state, local and tribal governments--have access to accurate information sufficient to effectively participate in managing human health and environmental risks; - Contaminated lands and toxic sites are cleaned up by potentially responsible parties and revitalized; and - Chemicals in the marketplace are reviewed for safety. The agency was founded in 1970 and is headquartered in Washington, District of Columbia with ten additional regional headquarters offices (Boston, New York, Philadelphia, Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, Kansas City, Denver, San Francisco, and Seattle) as well as more than a dozen laboratories, and other regional and programmatic offices.

At EPA's meteorological wind tunnel facility in North Carolina, experts in our Office of Research and Development use scaled models to simulate the spread of harmful airborne material released in urban and industrial settings. Measuring how air flows around scaled model buildings and where pollution goes helps determine how exposure to pollutants affects public health. https://spgv.io/6040w3I #EPAresearch

Our upcoming EPA Tools and Resources Training webinar will share our recently developed and released national geospatial dataset, Community Water System Service Area Boundaries, which can tell you which water system serves you, the source of your drinking water, and give you insights into how to obtain information about your water quality and service. This same data set can help public health and resource managers in planning and affordability analyses of drinking water investments and can inform public health and emergency response efforts to protect the public and critical infrastructure during emergencies. ?? Saving eelgrass, the most important plant you’ve likely never heard of ?? Wade out into the shallow coastal waters in almost any part of the world, and you may stumble across an underwater meadow. The waving fronds tickling your ankles aren’t seaweed, but something completely different - seagrass. These small plants may seem insignificant, but together they can form vast meadows visible from space. Eelgrass, the most dominant species of seagrass in the EPA New England Region (Region 1), is an unsung carbon-sequestering superhero. Meadows are in decline from threats like pollution and #ClimateChange. This WBUR and Pulitzer Center article highlights the work being done to study, preserve, and restore seagrass beds by Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, National Park Service, and EPA. ??https://spgv.io/6049zRV #EPAdivers #Seagrass #Eelgrass #FeelGoodFriday

?? Congratulations to 24 U.S. small businesses who are receiving a total of nearly $2.4 million in Phase I funding as part of our EPA Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Program! These businesses will use this funding to develop and commercialize their novel green technologies. This year’s Phase I recipients are developing technology solutions for various environmental challenges including promoting clean and safe water resources, reducing emissions from small point sources, developing technology to help first responders train for disaster response, supporting the circular economy, and reducing pollution through safer chemical alternatives. ???? If your area is affected by #wildfire smoke, check your HVAC filter every few days and change it if needed. A clean filter will remove particles more effectively, better protecting your indoor air. Use a higher-efficiency filter (ideally MERV 13) if you can! FEMA California Air Resources Board South Coast Air Quality Management District

EPA has released a draft scientific evaluation of the potential human health risks associated with the presence of toxic PFAS chemicals in biosolids, also known as sewage sludge. The findings show that there may be human health risks associated with exposure to the “forever chemicals” PFOA or PFOS with all three methods of using or disposing of sewage sludge – land application of biosolids, surface disposal in landfills, or incineration. Once finalized, the assessment will help EPA and our partners understand the public health impact of forever chemicals in biosolids and inform any potential future actions to help reduce the risk of exposure. https://spgv.io/6041KMb
