We are thrilled to highlight Hannah Huber (she/her) as February’s YP of the Month. Hannah currently is a master's student at Colorado State University studying systems engineering! Hannah’s experience in the #compost world began when she was an undergraduate studying ecosystem science and #sustainability at CSU. To fulfill her internship requirement for her degree, she began working as a compost technician at Compost Queen PBC (CQ), the local curbside food scrap composting service in the Northern Colorado area. During Hannah’s first semester working at CQ, which involved hauling and turning piles, she concurrently was creating a comparative research poster on the 3-bin vs. covered aerated static pile method of #composting – informed by CQ’s own transition between systems. The insights Hannah gained from both the internship and hands-on work propelled her interest in the industry. As a current master’s student of systems engineering at CSU, Hannah is now more interested in how large-scale compost systems can be optimized. Congratulations to Hannah for her outstanding contributions to the composting industry and her dedication to the YP Group as part of the Committee Service Committee!

BAM! Last week, compost friendly advocates -- including 90 new ones! -- from our community quickly amplified our comments pushing to add a biomanufacturing category to the National American Classification Industry Standard (NAICS) system in 2027 with notes through our Compost Action Center. (This would remove compost facilities from a current category that costs our composters unnecessary additional licensing, insurance and other fees because we have been classified as "chemical" manufacturers). The day after comments closed, we heard from the Economic Classification Policy Committee and we are meeting with them next week. We'll see where this goes! THANK YOU ADVOCATES!
