U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Rock Island District

This week, the Rock Island District is hosting our annual Lockmaster Workshop. Representatives from all 18 lock sites in the District on the Mississippi River and Illinois Waterway have gathered to discuss current and future projects, safety topics and collaborate on all things navigation. Lockmaster Jeff Gibbs was also recognized for his incredible contributions to the District for his work at Lock and Dam 21 in Quincy, Illinois, as he was presented with the Civilian Service Commendation Medal by District Commander, Col. Aaron Williams. Gibbs plans to retire later this year.

In alignment with Department of Defense (DoD) Instruction 5400.17 and recent Executive Orders issued by the President, the U.S. Army has reviewed and adjusted its social media content to ensure compliance with DoD policies and priorities. As a result, certain posts have been removed, are in a process of being removed or modified to maintain consistency with federal guidance and uphold the integrity of our official communication channels. Sadly we have reached the end of National Engineers Week 2025. Our final featured engineer is Marek Cobb! Marek is a Mechanical Engineer in our Construction office and has been with the Corps for just over a year. Marek enjoys the diverse projects and contracts he has been able to be a part of and also enjoys working on local projects that ensure communities will be protected from high water events. #EWeek2025

Only two engineers left to feature for National Engineers Week 2025! Tonight we shine a spotlight on Lauren Plumley. Lauren is a Mechanical Engineer (DA Fellow) in our Design Branch and has been with the Corps for about three years. Lauren is motivated by learning how things work, which really comes in handy whenever she's presented with a new design challenge. She enjoys that her job gives her opportunities to learn new things and then to learn how to apply that knowledge to practical situations. #EWeek2025

Our next engineer featured for National Engineers Week is John Ragle! John has been with the Corps for four years and is a Civil Engineer in our Civil and Environmental Engineering section. John is motivated by his co-workers and peers and enjoys the variation in projects that he gets to experience everyday working for the Rock Island District. #EWeek2025

Only a few engineers left to shine a spotlight on for National Engineers Week! Next up is Drew Mitchell. Drew is a Civil Engineer in the Geotechnical Branch of the Engineering and Construction Division and has been with the Corps for three years. Drew is motivated by being able to make a difference in the everyday projects and having the ability to give a little back to the community, by ensuring a job is done well, or by deploying for disaster relief. #EWeek2025
