Dr Charles Osterberg is the first in central Texas to use?Optilume, a novel drug coated balloon, that allows for urethral dilation to treat urethral strictures of the anterior urethra. Currently 4-year data has the highest success rate of any non-invasive treatment for urethral stricture disease short of invasive surgery.?Before Optilume, these procedures needed to be done in the hospital under general anesthesia. We are now happy to offer this in the office so that patients can recover quickly with minimal down time.?

Dr. David Cuellar performed the first urologic surgeries in Austin using the new Da Vinci 5 robotic technology. This newest generation of the Da Vinci robot is the first and only system that gives the surgeon the ability to?“feel” what they are operating on.?Prior to this, it was all based on visual cues. It also provides more advanced 3D imaging, better ergonomics for the surgeon and with 10,000 times the computing power of prior generations, it allows for shorter surgeries.?

Congrats to our entire research team! Urology Austin is number one in the country for the number of patients treated in the VAPOR 2 clinical trial. This study, evaluates the Vanquish Water Vapor Ablation Device as a treatment for patients with localized prostate cancer.

Dr. Peter Ruff was recently in London to train surgeons at the prestigious Guy’s Cancer Centre on the new Single Port Da Vinci Robotic System. Dr. Ruff was one of the first 15 surgeons in the world to be trained on this newer procedure that allows surgery to be done with only one incision instead four or five. Today, Dr. Ruff has completed more than 650 single incision surgeries and a total of more than 1,900 robotic surgeries, making him one of the most experienced Da Vinci Robotic surgeons in the United States and around the world.

We are celebrating that both Dr LeRoy Jones and Dr. Bryan Kansas were designated as a Center of Excellence for the AMS 700 Inflatable Penile Prosthesis. This helps showcase our commitment to providing the most advanced care for men's sexual health and being leaders in treatment of Erectile Dysfunction.

Dr. Cuellar is a national leader in Aquablation Therapy for the treatment of BPH. This new technology is known for reducing the chances of unwanted sexual side effects or incontinence following treatment for an enlarged prostate. Urology Austin has nine doctors who are trained in the new Aquablation technique and Dr. Cuellar has performed more than 200 of these procedures, making one of the most experienced with this new technology.

Urology Austin is now offering Focal One High Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU), a groundbreaking treatment available for some prostate cancer patients. It requires no surgery, no cutting, and no radiation. Dr. Giesler recently performed the first two cases in the Austin area at St. David’s Surgical Hospital.
