URC project leaders are critical to our successes, including for the tuberculosis (TB) projects we implement. How would two of our project leaders – URC Senior Technical Advisors Marianne Calnan and Abel Nkolo – prioritize using limited TB resources in the Philippines and Uganda, respectively? Watch this 6-minute video discussion to hear their insights: https://bit.ly/4fzTXNn USAID #EndTB #HealthIsSecurity

Thank you Gina Hechanova Alampay for your leadership!
Grateful to USAID for the invitation to talk about our RenewHealth project in the 2024 Health Services Research Conference in Nagasaki, Japan. Our symposium was entitled Thinking and Working Politically because as Prof Michael Reich of Harvard opened - health reform is political! Was affirmed by the positive feedback and convinced how these skills are important in health transformation. Learned from the other sessions how in LMICs, a common problem is the lack of resources for health and that technology is critical in health systems strengthening but the challenge is integration and scale. Thank you URC for the support!

The USAID Keneya Nieta Activity in Mali – represented by Chief of Party (COP) Dr. Sylvain B. Keita and Deputy COP Amadou Kansaye – was honored by the three Sikasso regional health departments for providing 78 villages with motorcycle ambulances to reinforce emergency medical and obstetric transport between villages and community health centers. Sikasso Regional Health Director Dr. Dramane Traoré handed over the certificate of recognition. “This donation strengthens the existing referral-evacuation system and will help reduce maternal, neonatal and infant mortality,” Dr. Traore said. USAID has awarded URC a 17-month, $12 million extension of the USAID Keneya Nieta Activity in Mali to continue building a resilient community health system. URC is the Activity’s lead implementer. Since 2020, Keneya Nieta has strengthened human and social capacity and empowered communities to use local resources to manage their own health and hold health systems accountable. The extension enables URC to continue the work through December 2026. “Local leadership is critical for the equity, effectiveness, and sustainability of URC’s work,” said Keneya Nieta Chief of Party Sylvain Keita. “We aim to enable local actors to set their own agendas, develop solutions, and bring their leadership and resources to make those solutions a reality.” During this funded extension, URC will focus on improving the ability of local organizations in Mali to receive direct awards from USAID. This will involve conducting baseline capacity assessments, risk evaluations, and tailored technical assistance to ensure that the sub-recipients are well-prepared for successful management of USAID funds. Earlier this year, 25 URC project leaders graduated from a URC internal Project Management and Leadership Training Program (PMLTP) to support their professional growth and improve project performance. What was the impact of the training? Listen to this audio testimonial by John Ntabala, MEL-KM Director for the USAID Keneya Nieta Activity in Mali. John said he already has applied lessons about managing the scope, time, and costs of projects to increase the odds of success. The 6-month program had 15 training sessions that emphasized issues that project leaders and managers need to be aware of, including how to: ·?Balance trade-offs between project scope and cost; ·?Empower team members; and ·?Track and act on risks. With this session, URC has trained 85% of its eligible project leaders. Curious for more? Read a related blog about the importance of building management capacity by URC Executive Vice President Carlos J. Cuellar, MD, MPH, who leads our PMLTPs: https://bit.ly/4hr6ZOj #URCisMe #QualityImprovement
