On GivingTuesday 2024, ULMT will inspire generosity and volunteerism within the community by joining with millions in this global day of giving on Tuesday, December 3. GivingTuesday is a global generosity movement, unleashing the power of people and organizations to transform their communities and their world. GivingTuesday kicks off the generosity season this year by inspiring people to give back on December 3 and into the new year. One hundred percent of the monetary gifts from this year’s ULMT GivingTuesday campaign will go to support the Presidential Scholarship Fund, which supports eligible college students who's proven their worthiness and deserve the right to stay in school. No student should have to drop out of college because they don't have the funds for tuition. So, through our GivingTuesday campaign, we are asking our community to help the Urban League help those college students finish strong. It's not about how you start, but how you finish. Your support will help make a difference in some college students' lives.” Those who are interested in joining Urban League of Middle Tennessee’s GivingTuesday initiative may visit our website at www.ulmt.org and click the red INVESTMENT button at the top of the homepage. We thank you for your consideration and support.

TDOT has proposed Tennessee’s first Choice Lanes project that would construct new, optional Choice Lanes on I-24 between Nashville and Murfreesboro. These Choice Lanes will offer an effective alternative to bypass congestion, providing drivers with consistent travel times in exchange for a user fee. It will also address travel time reliability and regional connectivity issues along approximately 26 miles of I-24 by giving motorists and transit riders with an effective transportation alternative.

We congratulate R.E.D Academy Cohort 2 Fellow Reginald ‘Reggie’ Howard of Rhow Properties for an award from the Barnes Fund to go toward a new housing project, which will be called ‘The Looking Glass on Ewing Drive’. Reggie is a developer and general contractor who gained experience in the industry through a mentorship program with Don Battle and has become well-experienced in the real estate industry, with projects ranging from infill lots to large-scale commercial deals. The Nashville native and Fisk University graduate is motivated by community engagement and regularly volunteers at Residential Resources, a program that helps find and build affordable homes for those in need. According to Reggie, his new project will have a total of 36 units. The estimated completion for the project is 2026. The Barnes Fund — the city’s first housing trust fund — helps nonprofit developers build new units that will remain affordable. Named for Nashville's affordable housing advocate, the late Rev. Bill Barnes, the fund was created under Mayor Karl Dean in 2013. Since then, it’s grown from $2.7 million to over $150 million. The fund operates by offering competitive grants to nonprofit housing developers.
