关于我们
UrbanEmerge conducts inclusive and sustainable development consulting services to public and private sector and civil society clients. We focus on low- and middle-income countries, helping to address increasingly urgent challenges for socially inclusive, resilient and low-carbon economic and urban development. Through some of our research and projects, we have designed donor-funded programmes for reducing plastic waste in cities, made infrastructure and master-plans more inclusive for persons with disabilities and designed integrated solid waste management programmes to secure donor funding. We have improved the sustainable development impact of private sector investments in African countries and helped donor funded programmes to learn and adapt. We have enabled clients to access new markets by leveraging new technologies and reviewed how support to industrial parks can best enable jobs and long term economic development, particularly for young women. Find out more about our services and experience on our website.

Incredible week at #WUF12 in Cairo where Andreas Beavor, as part of the Green Cities and Infrastructure Programme, shared strategies for creating an inclusive financial ecosystem, strengthening the enabling environment to scale up transformative urban projects across Africa. ??
Key takeaways from the #WorldUrbanForum: Emerging Giants - Financing Sub-Saharan Africa’s Sustainable Future ?? At the #WUF12 it is clear that African cities are already driving change through innovative interventions that support the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). However, to maintain this momentum and scale these efforts, there is still a critical need for greater finance as more on-the-ground implementation is required. Here are the standout insights from the session: ??? Growing commitment from African cities: Sergio Oliete Josa from the European Commission highlighted the impressive growth of the Covenant of Mayors in Sub-Saharan Africa (CoM SSA), now with over 380 signatories. As CoM SSA enters its next phase in 2025, the focus shifts from planning to real-world implementation. ?? Collaboration drives impact: Hannatu Ibrahim from ABUJA MUNICIPAL AREA COUNCIL, Nigeria, shared how CoM SSA brought together three Abuja agencies leading to unprecedented collaboration. AMAC's Sustainable Energy Access and Climate Action Plan, developed with CoM SSA, even led to legislative changes. ?? Addressing financial barriers: Mayor Manuel de Araújo from Quelimane, Mozambique, emphasized the need to overcome language barriers and build capacity for city staff to unlock financial opportunities for transformative urban projects. ?? Partnerships are essential: Thomas de Vericourt from Agence Fran?aise de Développement showcased the power of collaborative partnerships, citing the Lagos Waterways Project as a prime example. Learn more: https://lnkd.in/dSE_RFXQ ?? Scaling inclusive financial models: Andreas Beavor from Green Cities and Infrastructure Programme shared strategies for creating an inclusive financial ecosystem, strengthening the enabling environment to scale up transformative urban projects across Africa. ?? Long-term impact beyond projects: Michael Boulle from ICLEI Africa stressed the importance of policy support for long-term success—sometimes projects alone aren’t enough to drive lasting change. These insights highlight a clear path forward where African cities take the lead in evidence-based climate action, leveraging partnerships, inclusive financial models, and actionable solutions for sustainable development. CoM SSA is co-funded by the European Union (EU), the @German Federal Ministry for Economic Development and Cooperation (BMZ), and the AGENCIA ESPA?OLA DE COOPERACION INTERNACIONAL PARA EL DESARROLLO - AECID. #WUF #urban #climatefinance #cityfinance #finance #climateplanning #climate #climateprojects Global Covenant of Mayors for Climate & Energy (GCoM)

Our evidence review for the Green Climate Fund Independent Evaluation Unit on specific market-based approaches for climate action.
?? Very excited to share this?evidence review for the Green Climate Fund Independent Evaluation Unit on specific market-based approaches that have the potential to scale private sector financing for climate action, conducted by us at UrbanEmerge. The approaches include index-based insurance, payments for ecosystem services (PES), results-based payments, and willingness to pay assessments. The review highlights commonalities across the four selected approaches to inform learning within the GCF and, more broadly, across the climate finance landscape. ?? Great to see Vanuatu, an Island state in the pacific, lead the way towards becoming plastic-free. The movement was a bottom-up initiative which began as a petition and Facebook Group by immigrant locals, to say “no to plastic bags”. The government agreed and made it law. We are proud to have conducted research for the World Bank on tackling single-use plastic nappies in Vanuatu. https://lnkd.in/gnxWYSP8
