While the UA network spans across NYC (and the country), some of our schools are much closer than one would think. Last week’s tour was a special treat. Senator Cordell Cleare received a 2-for-1 tour of UA Academy for Future Leaders ??and UA School for the Performing Arts ??, both located in the same Harlem schoolhouse. A middle and high school respectively, these UA schools are unscreened, meaning any aspiring artist or leader can attend without prior training. Together, we dropped in on choir and acting courses while discussing ways to expand each school's reach. Another legislator tour? Well, the UA network runs deep, and our programs deeper. This week,?Assemblymember Phara Souffrant Forrest?visited the UA Unison School (UNI) to learn about their hydroponics program! ???? From Lego robotics, to woodshop, 3D printing, and coding, UNI offers cutting edge career & technology exploration programs. Thank you to Assemblymember Forrest and our tech-savvy students!

Vitals check!???????? Shoutout to the UA School for Collaborative Healthcare (UASCH) for putting on a clinic (literally) for NYC Senator Julie Salazar. Senator Salazar visited the UASCH to meet with students and discuss future funding opportunities ahead of NYC budget. As a career-themed high school, UASCH requires industry specific tools to enhance their classroom experience. As a demonstration of their career preparedness, select UA seniors had the opportunity to check the blood pressure and other vitals for Senator Salazar and UA CEO David Adams. Thank you for the clinic!

This week, UA sent three sponsored attendees to Durham, NC for the 2024 BlackSEL Summit. This is a two-day event that brings together educators and SEL practitioners from around the country to share best practices, innovative approaches for classrooms, and culturally responsive resources to sustain SEL as a tool in Black communities. The event features a long list of speakers, including a keynote address from Zamaswazi Dlamini-Mandela, a renowned entrepreneur and humanitarian (also, Nelson Mandela’s Granddaughter).
