Cohort 15 is in full swing, and it’s already been an incredible ride with our six startups! We’re excited to shine a spotlight on each of these amazing teams. ?? First up, meet OneSix Energy, founded by Stefan Sysko and Dan Darga in Detroit, Michigan. Stefan is a seasoned serial entrepreneur and tech-company advisor, while Dan, a former NASA rocket scientist, led teams developing satellites for groundbreaking research. Together, they bring a powerful blend of expertise to the table. OneSix Energy is leading the way with an innovative process to generate green hydrogen using methane as both the feedstock and energy source. ? Their vision is to place modular production units at industrial sites where hydrogen is used and at landfills where methane is a by-product. Hydrogen is becoming a vital alternative fuel and feedstock across industries like fertilizer and steel production, with green hydrogen showing massive potential to cut greenhouse gas emissions. ?? But right now, producing green hydrogen is still energy- and water-intensive, heavily dependent on renewable electricity. This year’s Climate Week brought together innovators, activists, and business leaders from across the globe, all driven by a shared goal: advancing climate solutions and creating a sustainable future. It was an inspiring gathering of minds, packed with incredible ideas and fresh solutions that highlight the importance of climate action. We ended the week with our URBAN-X Future Mobility Startup Challenge where innovators competed and presented game-changing solutions for the future of urban mobility to a jury of four judges and an excited audience. Among the standout companies, two really impressed with their forward-thinking innovations: 1. Voltpost ? Winner of the BMW Group Urban Life Award Voltpost is transforming urban infrastructure with its smart, adaptable electric vehicle (EV) charging system. By converting existing lampposts into EV charging stations, they’re making sustainable transportation more accessible to city dwellers. This brilliant idea is a game-changer for reducing carbon emissions and accelerating the shift to electric vehicles. ??? 2. Popwheels ?? Winner of the Community Award Popwheels is reinventing urban transportation with its network of e-mobility battery-swapping stations. Customers can easily check out compatible batteries from kiosks spread across the city, offering a cost-effective alternative that saves them hundreds of dollars annually. This system also addresses the fire hazards associated with personal battery charging, providing a safer solution for city streets. ???? Thank you to all our participants and judges! Below is some useful information on how to find us: ??We are located inside the Brooklyn Navy Yard at?Newlab. The easiest way to enter the Navy Yard is via the Cumberland gate (at Flushing Ave & Cumberland St). Simply let the guard know that you are attending an event at Newlab. The main entrance to Newlab is right past the security booth. ? If you are close to Pier 11 or East 34th Street, then the AS Ferry Line to the Brooklyn Navy Yard is a great option with terrific views. If you are up for a walk, you can take the subway to York Street, or a Citi Bike to Clinton Ave & Flushing Ave.
