Major upgrades coming to UH! #htx #realestate #gocoogs #education
Take a sneak peek at the future of UH: In the coming months and years, these construction projects will begin on our campus. ????? In 2027, UH will turn 100 years old. As part of our centennial, we’re making upgrades and enhancements across campus. University Blvd. will be reworked to become more pedestrian friendly, and Farish Hall will be demolished to make way for Centennial Plaza. The plaza will feature a large green space for events and activities, upgrading one of our campus’ most iconic spaces. The College of Education’s new home will be in McElhinney Hall, which is currently undergoing a major renovation and is slated to reopen in summer 2025. Wilhelmina’s Grove will also be beautified and enhanced for outdoor events. In addition to these plans for our centennial, this spring the ground will be broken on the new Innovation Hub — a 70,000-square-foot building in the heart of campus that will be home to everything that inspires innovation — a makerspace, the Energy Transition Institute, the Wolff Center for Entrepreneurship and more. The Hobby School of Public Affairs will have its own 42,000-square-foot building scheduled to be completed in 2027. It will provide cutting-edge teaching and collaborative environments, enhancing the academic experience. Recognizing the needs of many other buildings, we had allocated $100 million to retrofit and upgrade many facilities at the core of our campus. That includes work on Science and Research 1, McElhinney Hall and Agnes Arnold Hall. Last year, we added $38 million to ensure that the needs of Agnes Arnold Hall were met, and work is ongoing. Other upcoming projects include: ? A new freshman residence hall that will add 1,000 beds to campus ? The Medical Research Building next to the Fertitta College of Medicine ? A new 71,000-square-foot dining commons near Cougar Village I and II ? Upgraded safety and security project that will revamp lighting across campus, and add more security cameras and emergency boxes
