From 11AM to 6PM we will transform Plymouth Avenue between Logan and Penn, into an urban festival and resource fair featuring food, fun, entertainment, and giveaways! According to Pew Research Center’s 2021 look at Black-owned business in the United States, the most common sector of business ownership was health care and social assistance at 28%. That is, 7% of all classifiable U.S. businesses in the health care and social assistance sector were majority Black-owned. The professional, scientific, and technical sector ranks second at 13.9% Black-owned. According to the National Center for Education Statistics, as of 2022 there were 101 HBCUs in 19 states, the District of Columbia, and the Virgin Islands; fifty-two public and 50 private. Today, enrollment in these institutions is at 343,700 and 70% of enrolled students at HBCUs are Black (2024 Best HBCU Schools, n.d.). Black students choose HBCUs for the supportive atmosphere and community.
