Urban Community AgriNomics (UCAN) is a 501(c)3 nonprofit founded April 29th, 2016 by sisters, Delphine Godley Sellars and Lucille Godley Patterson. This organization reflects their desire to engage the community of Northern Durham with skills based in agriculture and providing a place for those within the community to have access to fresh fruits and vegetables. UCAN has donated over 30,000 pounds of fresh vegetables and fruits, through local harvesting and gleaning events sponsored by the Society of St. Andrews. UCAN provides opportunities for a diverse group of board members and volunteers. A partnership with Triangle Land Conservancy (TLC) lead to a User Licensure Agreement, resulting in the creation and development of the Catawba Trail Farm.

Recently, we had the pleasure of hosting Purpose Learning Lab,Inc at the Catawba Trail Farm! The youth had a fantastic day exploring the garden with UCAN Plot Owner, Amber. They painted rocks with uplifting words and placed them around the farm for others to find. It was a day of creativity and encouragement—what a wonderful way to spread positivity!
For 9/11 Day of Service, we were grateful to welcome an enthusiastic and hardworking group from IBM to Catawba Trail Farm! Their efforts made a huge impact, helping us tackle important projects around the farm. We’re so thankful to have had their support on such a meaningful day of service.
We recently welcomed the DURHAM COUNTY PUBLIC HEALTH DEPARTMENT to the Catawba Trail Farm! It was a fantastic afternoon of connection and sharing our mission. We're excited to nurture this growing partnership!

During Juneteenth week, we were delighted to host a group from the North Carolina State University Department of Forestry and Environmental Resources at UCAN. This enthusiastic group was eager to learn about UCAN, the history of our land, and dive into gardening. We are deeply grateful for this wonderful group! “Thank you both for a truly wonderful experience this morning! A huge thank you to Biogen for volunteering at Catawba Trail Farm as part of their 'Caring Deeply' day of service! They helped us tremendously by clearing out and organizing our storage container—such a big help!
