A recent article from S&P Global delves into the need to redefine the current energy transition and reassess strategy. We have experienced shifts in the energy mix before, from wood to coal for greater efficiency and from coal to gas for improved cost and functionality, and in none of these cases was there an abrupt or complete change, so why is this transition expected to be any different? This transition is driven by our need to reduce emissions, but a complete phaseout of hydrocarbons is unrealistic, as they are a critical part of ensuring energy security and are a significant revenue source for many countries.
