Join us next week as the Upstate Manufacturing Network's Steering Team as they discuss the effects that Hurricane Helen had on operations and how their culture shifted to support staff and other regional effects of the disaster. Hurricane Helene left a trail of devastation across the southeastern United States, and Upstate South Carolina was no exception. Many individuals and businesses in the region have been deeply affected by the storm’s damage. To support local Manufacturing leaders during this challenging time, this Lunch and Learn session has been organized to create a space for open discussion. We will explore the impact of Hurricane Helene on operations, the ways in which company cultures have adapted to support employees, and the broader regional effects of the disaster. Additionally, we will examine how contingency planning, staff support systems, and company cultures have shifted in response to the rapid and dramatic changes that have occurred in just a matter of days. The National Association of Manufacturers Q3 2024 Manufacturers’ Outlook Survey highlights uncertainty across several challenges and shows a drop in manufacturing sentiment in the third quarter. With key findings including: PRIORITY CONCERNS: 1) weak domestic economic 2) rising healthcare costs 3) unfavorable business climate 4) attracting and retaining a quality workforce MAJORITY OF RESPONDENTS AGREED: -- Congress should act before the end of 2025 to prevent scheduled tax increases on manufacturers. Tax increases will harm growth in manufacturing in the United States. -- Lawmakers need to act to address health care costs for manufacturing workers.
