It’s been 3 or 4 years since you’ve refreshed your website and you find yourself contemplating a redesign. While the age of a website can be an important consideration, it's not the sole factor in deciding whether an upgrade could enhance your online presence and potentially boost sales. Here are 5 signs that it might be time for a website refresh: You’re not getting as many leads as you used to get - Over time, has your conversion rate begun to drop? Visitors to your site now expect a different, upgraded experience from what they saw 3 years ago. Hubspot says websites that are not regularly updated can see a 5% conversion rate decline each year due to outdated strategies and user experience. Your search engine rankings have declined - If you’re not consistently promoting your website, your rankings will decline. A website refresh will give you an opportunity to focus on your target keyword phrases and add new content. Google favors sites with fresh content, so give it to them! Design trends have changed and it’s not good to “show your age” - Is your site keeping up? Many of today’s most effective websites display text in readable bite-sized chunks, have large detailed photos, and use video to tell a story. 48% of users cite a website’s design as the #1 factor in deciding the credibility of the business. Many of your competitors have redesigned their sites lately - Your prospects are visiting your website and comparing it to your competitor’s website. A Clutch survey revealed that 50% of businesses who outperform their competitors credit their success to frequent website updates and redesigns to stay ahead in usability and customer satisfaction. Getting around your site on a mobile phone can be challenging - A large percentage of visitors are viewing your website from their phone. If your site does not offer a stellar mobile experience, you’ll lose that prospect and they won’t come back. Enhance your online presence to maintain a competitive edge, elevate user experience, and ultimately drive increased sales.

For many B2B companies, the answer is “no”.? Here are some of the excuses I hear for not paying attention to monthly website reports: 1. My website does little to contribute to our business development process, so why bother? If this describes you, you’re missing a huge opportunity.? Your website has the potential to uncover more new business opportunities than any other form of promotion.? And if this is not the case in your business, you should make it a priority to figure out why. ? 2. The reports are not actionable. It's common for website performance reports to be seen as lacking in actionable insights. For example, simply knowing that visitors spend an average of 1 minute and 30 seconds on your site may not provide much value without proper context. Here are a few pieces of report data that will identify areas where you’re having issues: - Form-fill Leads divided by total visitors: For example, if you get 50 form-fill leads a month and divide that by your 2,500 monthly visitors, that’s a 2% conversion percentage.? If your conversion percentage is less than 2%, you can do better.? Recruit a few of your customers and get them to go through your website with you to understand why visitors are not getting in touch. - Most Popular Pages: Are the pages that your visitors visit most often the most important pages/products you want them to see?? If not, why not?? And how do you get more visitors to your important pages?? These questions will lead you to investigate your site’s search visibility and navigation to drive more traffic to key pages. - Landing Pages: These are the pages that visitors see when they initially land on the site.? Where do they go next?? Do they move forward into the site or go away from the site?? If a high percentage of visitors just view 1 page and leave, your site can’t help you reach your new business goals. ? 3. The reports don’t provide a time comparison: It’s important to have a historical perspective.? How does this number compare with last month?? Last year?? If your numbers are consistently going down, over time, then you should be motivated to understand why. By addressing these key points and actively monitoring your website analytics, you can begin to transform your website into a valuable asset that drives growth and success for your business.

There are two statistics that can alert you to serious roadblocks you’re putting up between search engines and your website.? You’ll need two free Google products to collect the data: Google Analytics and Google Search Console. GOOGLE ANALYTICS: Search Visits vs. Total Visits If your website is well optimized for search, your search traffic should be 50% to 75% of all visits.? If direct traffic is your highest visitor source, you’re definitely putting up roadblocks. GOOGLE SEARCH CONSOLE: Non-Branded (product) vs. Branded (company name) Keywords If the majority of keyword phrases that you’re ranking for include your Company Name instead of the type of Product you sell, you’re being found in search engines mainly by people who already know you.? Ideally, 60%+ of the keyword phrases you rank for would be product related.
