This month, team members in Bel Air, Aberdeen, and Belcamp received charming red drink tumblers to celebrate Employee Appreciation Day. The tumblers feature the phrase “Thanks For Being Amazing” on the front, a warm gesture of gratitude for their hard work.

A chili cook-off spiced up UM UCH this February, with team members vying for the title of best chili chef. Contestants brought their creations to our hospital cafés, where colleagues sampled and voted. Congratulations to Jason Hill from Facilities Operations, who took home the prize and bragging rights! And for all the heat seekers out there, his winning recipe will soon be featured in our cafés! The event was a great success, with everyone enjoying the chili, sharing laughs, and connecting with their peers. A big thank you to all the chefs, participants, and volunteers who made the day so flavorful.

UM UCH is pleased to honor our 3E and Hospitalist teams for their exceptional response to an inpatient stroke. Recognizing a critical change in the patient's condition prior to a scheduled cardiac catheterization, they swiftly activated the Stroke Rapid Response Team. This decisive action, followed by timely and coordinated transport to the University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore for specialized treatment, enabled the patient to make a full recovery. By providing our neighbors with outstanding care, team members April Ruthke, RN, Haley Reddish, RN, and Dr. Jianhua Wu received Golden Brain Awards, which honor those who “Save a Brain” by identifying acute stroke symptoms. In February, team members Tresa Meredith, Mulu Parks, Elgin Sampal, and Jo Anne Thomson had the chance to attend the 2025 Press Ganey HX Conference in Orlando. This conference, hosted by the health care performance improvement company Press Ganey, focuses on the human experience, employee engagement, and clinical quality. The group found the event highly valuable, gaining expert speakers' insights on innovative strategies and emerging technologies in health care. They also benefited from networking with other professionals in the field and returned inspired with new knowledge, anticipating a positive impact on both patient and team member experience.
