After 12 years in exile, this refugee is returning home to Syria with hope. As Saddam holds his daughter Allouna at the border crossing between Jordan and Syria, he is full of future plans. “I will open an aluminium shop in my village in Busra Al-Sham and contribute to the rebuilding of my country,” he says. UNHCR is supporting voluntary returns for many more like Saddam, who feels safe to return home and start anew in Syria. We are providing returnees and others in need with basic household items, repairs to damaged homes, emergency cash assistance, support to replace lost identity documents and psychological counselling, among other services. We are working to ensure returnees can integrate in their communities and access vital services.
