Today, CIC Dean Tom Reichert and Michael Sagas, dean of the University of South Carolina College of Hospitality, Retail and Sport Management, announced a new agreement to develop graduate programs and professional development opportunities for the sports industry. “The global sports industry is booming,” says Sagas. “There’s an urgent need to train executives with the right skills to continue to grow the sector.” ? According to a study by The Business Research Company, the global sports industry is projected to exceed $650 billion in 2028.? ? “Most universities have either an excellent sports journalism and media program or an outstanding sport management program but not both,” says Reichert. “Collaborating between our colleges will allow us to leverage the unique strengths of our programs to provide education that meets the burgeoning needs of the industry.” ? The two colleges will work together to provide course offerings that specifically cater to the needs of executives in the sports industry to communicate effectively and make savvy business decisions.? ?
