The CIC AI Index study gathered perceptions of artificial intelligence from more than 1,000 individuals across the U.S. Participants shared their perspectives on how AI will impact privacy, politics and the workplace. Students from across the state visited CIC on Saturday to participate in the Call for Code: IBM watsonx Workshop. After learning about the watsonx generative AI platform, the students were charged with identifying a specific issue involving equitable access to vital services and using watsonx to provide a solution. In teams of 10, with one hour to complete the challenge, students chose a variety of issues to work on from increasing literacy in rural areas to health care access to social justice to storm preparation. The Health Disparity Research Symposium held last Friday brought together researchers from across campus and program officers from foundations to discuss ways to address the most pressing healthcare issues for South Carolina and beyond. Since coming to USC in 2019, Augusta Baker Endowed Chair Nicole A. Cooke has worked tirelessly to extend Mrs. Baker’s legacy in a variety of ways. Collaborating with the University of South Carolina Libraries' Digital Collections team to digitize Mrs. Baker’s papers has been one of those efforts. The fruits of their diligence can be seen in the recently launched digital exhibit that includes some of Mrs. Baker's letters, photographs and publications that represent the multiple facets of her long career in librarianship, children’s literature and storytelling.
