The OregonServes Commission recently highlighted PPPM's AmeriCorps Partner Program. Learn more below. Celebrating 30 years of Inspiring Work with RARE Program in Eugene, Oregon The Resource Assistance for Rural Environments (RARE) AmeriCorps Program focuses on increasing the capacity of rural communities to improve their economic, social, and environmental conditions through the assistance of passionate new leaders. Established in 1994, the RARE AmeriCorps Program just celebrated 30 Years of serving rural Oregon this summer. In early August, around 100 alumni gathered from around the United States for a reunion to connect and celebrate all this program has done! The RARE Program’s story and impact has so much to do with the communities and the members who take on the challenge – like Year 30 member Braden Ravenscraft who was placed up the McKenzie River (watch this video to learn more about his story of service). The RARE Program will continue to grow and develop in the years to come with some exciting partnerships with the Department of Environmental Quality and the US Department of Agriculture. There are also record numbers of RARE AmeriCorps alumni, who are now serving as supervisors for the current generation of members. Two organizations – The Eastern Oregon Visitors Association and Lake County Resource Initiatives – have 3 members who were hired on as staff and are currently hosting RARE members as well. #rare, #pppm, #uoregon

Way to go, Natalie Hawkins. PPPM is so proud of you!
For the past eight months, I worked as a Finance Assistant on Congresswoman Andrea Salinas' Re-election campaign! In this role, I managed the congresswoman’s in-state event fundraising program, supported the Finance Director, and contributed to a team effort that raised over $5 million—leading to Congresswoman Salinas’ re-election by a 6-point margin. I’m deeply grateful to my Finance Director, Jennifer Garcia, for their mentorship and guidance throughout this cycle, and to the incredible Team Salinas for their unwavering dedication and hard work. It has been an honor to work for Oregon’s first Latina representative in Congress and to further my passion for uplifting women of color in elected office. I’m thrilled to announce that I’ll be moving to Washington, D.C., this month to join U.S. Senator Mazie K. Hirono’s office as a Scheduler’s Assistant. Returning to this team and representing my home in D.C. is a privilege. Thank you to Meghan O'Connor, Jade Rowland, and Melissa Feld for your support and mentorship during this transition. I look forward to starting this new chapter of my career in Washington D.C. !

Thank you for hosting us, Oregon Department of Land Conservation and Development!
Student Planning Day ???? Today we hosted graduate students from Eastern Oregon University, University of Oregon, and Portland State University's planning programs in our Salem office. Student Planning Day is an annual event for students to learn more about DLCD and Oregon's land use planning system. Deputy Director Kirstin Greene and Planning Services Division Manager Matthew Crall gave an overview of DLCD's work and the history of land use planning in Oregon. At DLCD, we strive to?help communities plan for, protect, and improve the built and natural systems that provide a high quality of life. In partnership with local governments and community members, we foster sustainable and vibrant communities and protect our natural resources legacy. Thank you to DLCD staff Eva Krukowski, Hui Rodomsky, Nicole Cross, and Kieran Turnbull for sharing your stories and current projects. It was great seeing students engage with each other and staff. Here is to the next generation of Oregon's land use planners!

Woohoo!! Go Rebecca Lewis !!
? I am honored to share that I was awarded a University of Oregon Herman Award for Specialized Pedagogy! I was surprised by this news in an IPRE Team Meeting last spring and was recognized at a ceremony this week for University-level outstanding achievement awards. ? I'm grateful to the colleagues and students who nominated me for this award, and to have the opportunity to interact with passionate, engaged students in University of Oregon School of Planning, Public Policy and Management classes.?It's great to be in a school that values applied practice and encourages innovative pedagogy.?My specific award relates to methods I use to encourage students to apply what they're learning in the classroom to real-world clients and how I focus on developing professionally relevant skills.?I've been lucky to work with Sustainable Cities Institute City Year Program and IPRE Lane County Policy Lab to provide opportunities for students to see the real-time impact of their coursework.?? ? Super thankful to be recognized and to be part of PPPM! https://lnkd.in/gGXRE38s
