Congratulations?to?Christina Bollo and Rebecca Lewis?on receiving the?Tinker Hatfield Award for Innovation?for their groundbreaking project,?Architectural Ramifications of Middle Housing in Oregon Cities! Their interdisciplinary approach, involving both faculty and students, will provide crucial analysis of Oregon’s Model Code and city guidelines for cottage clusters and townhouses—Middle Housing types that offer cities the greatest opportunity to densify. This work builds on previous research and highlights the power of collaboration between planning and architecture. Prof.?Lewis?regularly?collaborates?with the Sustainable City Year Program (SCYP). In 2020, she taught?a graduate?class?that?provided?development code and messaging tools?recommendations to the city of Hood River?as they?address and reduce barriers to missing middle housing types. These recommendations included?zoning changes to allow a greater diversity of housing types, such as the adoption of form-based code to better align zoning with community needs and priorities.????To learn more about the project, Decreasing Barriers to Missing Middle Housing in Hood River, Oregon, go?to?https://lnkd.in/gRu2afvz ? Prof. Bollo recently completed an architectural design studio in Oakridge where students proposed contextually appropriate middle housing for Oakridge neighborhoods.
