Today was my last day of school ever! ?? I’m so thankful for the past four years at the University of Oregon, the University of Oregon School of Journalism and Communication, and everything that’s come with it. I've officially completed my B.S. in Public Relations with minors in Business Administration and Science Communication. This morning, I had my portfolio reviewed by Tiffany Derrick and Sophia McDonald Bennett, officially wrapping up my time at UO. Earlier this week, I closed out Allen Hall Public Relations with end-of-term presentations, and last week, I finished UO PRSSA. I’m still feeling the excitement from our NYC PDT two weeks ago! With that, I’m excited to share that I’ll be moving back to the Bay Area and continuing my role in The Hoffman Agency’s spring intern cohort—now in person! Thank you to everyone who has been part of this journey—mentors, professors, peers, and friends. I couldn’t have done it without you! Sco Ducks! ??

We took a bite out of the Big Apple! Two weeks ago,16 UO PRSSA members jetted off to New York City on our longest and farthest Professional Development Tour (PDT) yet. We spent five jammed-packed days running around the city, touring agencies, making connections, eating great food and seeing the sights. We started out at Burson where Lianna Jordan told us all about Burson’s unique and technology-forward approach to marketing. Then we caught up with UO Alumni Audrey Marlatt at Hunter where we looked at deep dive case studies of their most successful campaigns. Next we headed downtown to the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) headquarters where we met with Shelley Spector who gave us a special tour of the Museum of PR. We chatted with the girls at GALE about their work on the Got Milk campaign, and how they maintain positive working relationships with influencers. Our final day brought us to FleishmanHillard where we got to hear from two more SOJC alumni, Rita Herbstman and Jonah Boyd, who discussed AI’s quickly evolving role in the communications industry. We saved the best for last with our special tour of the Empire State Building with Brock Talbot, who taught us all about how the landmark advertises itself and works with celebrities to create paid and earned media. This trip was a culmination of months of hard work from our executive team. We want to give a special thank you to Rebecca Chiang and Shaelyn Ross for successfully planning and organizing this trip, and to Chloe Jurva for securing our funds. We can’t wait for more PDTs in the future, and are excited to see where we go next!

Happy Halloween, LinkedIn! PRSSA has had such a great time this month kickstarting our school year, traveling, meeting new members, and learning from guest speakers. Here’s all that we got up to during October. Week 2 of fall term, we hosted a craft night for our first meeting of the year. We had an amazing turnout, and made PR career vision boards out of magazine clippings! It was so great to see familiar faces, as well as many eager new members. What a perfect way to start our year. The next week, our exec team got the amazing opportunity to travel to Anaheim and attend ICON, PRSSA’s international conference. We got to network with tons of industry professionals, attend professional development panels, and connect as a team. ICON is quickly becoming one of our favorite annual traditions, and we can’t wait for next year! Once we got back home to Eugene, we hosted two former Ducks as guest speakers at our chapter meetings: Raelyn Martin from Mythology, and Emma Childs from Tik Tok. The biggest takeaway we had from both of these speakers is that connections are everything! The PR industry is an extremely large network of professionals, and you never know where one small interaction can take you. October was such an amazing month, and we can’t wait for the rest of the year!
