Absolute action-packed week at TECH WEEK by a16z ?? I felt compelled to acknowledge some incredible folks who organized and hosted truly dynamic events last week. Some highlights: ?? Awesome kick-off breakfast hosted by Amazon with Lesley Silverman, Matt Sandler and Cody Coleman leading a fascinating discussion on the intersection of investing, technology, media and entertainment. ?? Fireside chat hosted by J.P. Morgan, Neil Doshi and team, and Honeylove co-founder Igor Lebovic doing a deep dive on all things consumer. ?? A peak into the “future of entertainment with AI” with Kenneth Ye, Chad Nelson, Scott Shane and Hilmar Koch. I’m convinced Chad has seen v3 or v4 of Sora and was dropping breadcrumbs about it’s mind blowing capabilities. ?? Met some amazing founders building in consumer AI at The GenAI Collective event hosted by Chappy Asel, Sunset Ventures, Emerging LA and Brandon Hoffman. ?? Untapped Ventures and George Bandarian hosted an incredible event at USC exploring Agentic and Vertical AI with founders and VCs Aria Attar, Joe Stolte, Jacky W., Hari Arul, Yipeng Zhao, James Shecter and Nicole Toussaint. ?? After a long week, the pickleball event hosted by Red Beard Ventures was a welcomed and appreciated format change. Major props to Elana Gold for bringing together an awesome group of founders and investors for a great meetup and workout! Too many others to list them all. Huge thanks to all the organizers and participants who made this week happen. The LA tech scene is alive and thriving!

Fantastic discussion between George Bandarian and the Founder's panel at TECH WEEK by a16z on Agentic and Vertical AI. Firstly, what is Agentic AI? Simply put, these are autonomous AI agents that are trained to perform relatively complex tasks with little to no human intervention ?? Some insights: ?? ? We are going to see Horizontal (generalized) and Vertical(specialized) agents. The "jobs to be done" by these autonomous agents will vary in complexity and focus and the Agentic AI solution will need to consider both approaches in their build. ?? Time to value is what is going to differentiate Agentic solutions; we are likely going to see many AI agents out there but not all are going to deliver value ?? Humans are going to be needed in the loop needed to supervise and train agents until they can run autonomously. General Agents may need continuous human oversight for long tail complex tasks. ?? Is interoperability amongst autonomous agents going to become an issue with this proliferation of autonomous agents? Lastly, despite this evolution in Agentic AI, end customers care more about their outcomes and ROI than whether there is AI enablement under the hood.
