Students in the Human Trafficking and the Law class at UNT Dallas College of Law recently had the unique opportunity to meet with Dallas City Councilmember Gay Donnell Willis. As Chair of the Domestic Violence/Human Trafficking Advisory Council, Councilmember Willis listened to the students' proposal focused on providing more targeted resources for human trafficking victim-survivors and the broader community. This experience reflects the College of Law's commitment to experiential learning and addressing critical social justice issues. We had an incredible turnout as students explored the new Academic Success and Bar Readiness Office, and met with the team Marques Rice, Aryele Maye, and Rebecca Warren. Over the weekend, UNT Dallas College of Law commemorated its 10th anniversary with a gala at the Dallas Arts District Mansion. That’s a wrap on 1L! This summer I had the privilege to split my summer with the Hon. Martin Hoffman in the 68th?Civil District Court as a judicial intern, and the Hon. Renee Toliver in the Northern District of Texas, Dallas Division as a law clerk! I want to thank Judge Hoffman for putting together an incredible program full of networking, socials, and most importantly, invaluable exposure to the litigation practice here in Dallas. A special thank you goes out to all the past “Hoffterns” and other attorneys that took the time to host us for lunches and volunteering events, and Team 3— my UNT Dallas peers! Judge Toliver’s program was equally magnificent. I worked on a variety of matters ranging from criminal matters posing constitutional questions, habeas corpus, and petitions for writs of mandamus. Through the guidance of full-time clerks Michael Wozniak and RJ Giglio, I can comfortably say I left this clerkship with a newfound appreciation for legal research and writing. Looking forward to what 2L has to offer!?
