Don't miss Shannon Presley, principal lecturer, and Raedeen Wingate, senior lecturer, in our Department of Audiology & Speech-Language Pathology who will be the featured speakers at the UNT NSSLHA Literacy Night Nov. 21 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Denton Public Library South Branch. They will be talking about the importance of literacy in children, how to recognize if your child is struggling, and when and how to receive intervention services.

The College of Health and Public Service (HPS) at the University of North Texas, distinguished as one of the few Tier One research universities designated as a Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI), prepares graduates to address diverse and complex social issues such as aging, disability, disaster management and recovery, criminal justice, health disparities, and public safety, and find solutions to challenges in public administration, public health, and urban design. #UNT Faculty: Don't miss our very own Dr. Matthew Laske, #BehaviorAnalysis assistant professor, at 3 p.m. Monday, Nov. 18, in Chilton Hall, Room 274, as he presents as part of the Jim McNatt Institute for Logistics Research Team Building sessions. Dr. Laske is recognized by the Cambridge Center for Behavioral Studies (CCBS) as a Distinguished Scholar, where he assists the CCBS’s Commission on Behavioral Safety in documenting the best behavioral safety programs in the world over the last 15 years.

Here are a few tips to relieve stress from our chair of Rehabilitation & Health Services to help you: Learn to manage your time wisely so you feel less stressed. Get plenty of sleep and proper nutrition. Make self-care a priority. Make time for fun. Setting time aside to unwind is pivotal to lowering stress. And, don't be afraid to reach out to those around you for support.

#TB to last week when our #SpeechLanguagePathology?graduate clinicians who are at the UNT Kristin Farmer Autism Center for practicum this semester and Clinical Professor Lauren Mathews planned a great #Halloween?session for their two social groups, Social Kids and Language is FUNdamental, and dressed as their favorite #CareBear. The Social Kids group is a social group for children with autism 2-5 years old and the Language is FUNdamental group is social group for children with autism 6-8 years old. Both groups focus on the core skills of imitation, initiation, symbolic play, and receptive and expressive language.

In 1990, Congress passed and President George H. W. Bush signed into law a joint resolution designating the month of November as the first National American Indian Heritage Month (also known as #NativeAmericanHeritageMonth). Since then, it's been a time to acknowledge the many contributions and achievements of Native peoples. Approximately 1% of #UNT students identify as #NativeAmerican.
