Earlier this month, we had the incredible opportunity to welcome dozens of Microsoft employees to our UNSPOKEN SMILES headquarters in Costa Rica—all united under one purpose: ensuring every child has access to oral health essentials. Through Microsoft Give, employees are empowered to support causes they care about, and Microsoft amplifies their impact by donating funds on behalf of each participant. This is corporate social responsibility at its best—where businesses and employees come together to create real, measurable change. Thanks to this partnership, we’ve already packed more than 1,500 oral hygiene kits, which will be distributed to four kindergarten schools in San José, impacting 600 children. But we’re not stopping there! Next goal: Pack 3,500 kits in the next three months to reach all 21 schools reaching more than 4,500 children in the entire canton of San José. This is why partnerships with programs like Microsoft Give matter. When companies actively encourage employees to give back, they don’t just strengthen communities—they build a culture of purpose, engagement, and impact. A huge thank you to Microsoft Give, and special appreciation to our in-kind partners Henry Schein and the American Dental Association for supporting our Zero Cavity Initiative. If your company is looking to make a real difference while fostering employee engagement, let’s connect! Together, we can transform smiles and lives. A huge thank you to HP Costa Rica for donating four laptops to equip our UNSPOKEN SMILES Prevention Clinic! Because of this incredible support, every room in our clinic will now have an HP computer, helping us manage patient care, track impact, and operate more efficiently—all while keeping our focus on what truly matters: serving children in need. But this donation goes even further. The funds we would have spent on computers can now be redirected to our school-based programs, ensuring thousands of children receive free preventive dental care and education. At Unspoken Smiles, we don’t just accept donations—we build partnerships with visionary companies like HP, where they can contribute not only resources but also their time and skills. We’re excited to explore more ways for the HP team to get involved, including joining our toothbrush drive activities to spread even more smiles. Thank you, HP Costa Rica, for standing with us in our mission. Together, we are shaping a healthier, brighter future for children in Costa Rica and beyond! Historic Moment for Oral Health at the ECOSOC Youth Forum! For the first time ever, oral health will take center stage at the ECOSOC Youth Forum with a dedicated side event—shedding light on its critical role in sustainable development, universal health coverage, and youth empowerment. For too long, oral health has been overlooked in global health discussions. That changes now. This event will empower young leaders to champion oral health as a fundamental human right, ensuring that every child—regardless of background—has access to the essential care they need to thrive. We need your support! To make this groundbreaking event a success, we are seeking partners, sponsors, and advocates who share our vision for a world where oral health is prioritized. Whether you’re an organization, a policymaker, or a passionate changemaker, your involvement can help shape a healthier future for millions. If you’re interested in supporting or sponsoring this initiative, let’s connect via email at [email protected]. Together, we can drive real impact. Dental associations exist to support, represent, and empower their members, ensuring that oral healthcare professionals have the resources and policies needed to make a lasting impact. However, a concerning trend has emerged in some associations: the concentration of outreach efforts within leadership circles, where only top executives and board members get to participate in high-profile volunteer activities. The American Dental Association’s “Give Kids a Smile” Model: The Gold Standard of Inclusive Impact In contrast, the American Dental Association (ADA) has set a gold standard for how dental associations should drive community outreach. Instead of making outreach about leadership visibility, the Give Kids a Smile (GKAS) program is designed to mobilize and empower thousands of dental professionals to serve children in need. In Jacmel, Haiti, children rely on rainwater collected in barrels at their schools—often forced to choose between drinking or brushing their teeth. Without clean water, even the simplest act of oral hygiene becomes a challenge, leading to preventable dental diseases that impact their overall health. This World Water Day, we uncover the overlooked connection between SDG 6 and oral health, and why access to clean water is not just about survival—it’s about protecting millions of smiles worldwide.

Exciting Visit at UNSPOKEN SMILES HQ in Costa Rica! We were honored to welcome Dr Maria del Mar Odio, Director of the ULACIT Clinic, along with a group of students, to our headquarters! They received a guided tour of our facility and learned about the Unspoken Smiles Fellowship Program from our amazing Project Manager, Priscilla. It was an inspiring and engaging day, filled with insightful discussions on how future dental professionals can contribute to oral health access and sustainable impact. 1 in 2 people suffer from oral diseases. However, only some are covered by essential oral health services. On #WorldOralHealthDay, we call on all countries to reprioritise oral health care as part of their #HealthForAll commitment.

World Oral Health Day and the International Day of Happiness should be more than symbolic dates. They should be reminders that a healthy smile is not just about looking good—it’s about living better. It’s time to move beyond awareness and commit to real, lasting solutions. The future of millions of children depends on it.
