???I have the great privilege to attend the Sustainable Energy for All (SEforALL) Global Energy Forum #SEforALLForum this week, representing the Sustainable Development Solutions Network universities and thought leaders taking bold action to decarbonize, and the Council of Engineers for the Energy Transition. Some highlights from the opening ceremony include: ?? UN Deputy Secretary-General Amina Mohammed called for action around three Cs: Collaboration, Creativity and Coherence (among development, climate, and energy planning nationally). ???Barbados Prime Minister Mia Mottley made a bold call to “share” throughout the conference, to identify areas where we can agree and get started and not dwell on challenges or misalignment. We do not need to agree with each other on everything and each country will choose its own energy pathway so what we need is more joint learning and sharing of pragmatic actionable solutions. ???She also made a call for support on the Global Compact on Methane as a starting point to work together to eliminate this potent greenhouse gas by 2040. ???Several leaders from Africa, including Damilola Ogunbiyi, CEO and Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Sustainable Energy for All, and Co-Chair of UN-Energy, highlighted #Mission300 as an exciting finance accelerator to cut in half the amount of people in Africa still without access to power. To support this, the need for regional power pools and grid interconnection was highlighted by the African Development Bank Group. ???Speakers acknowledged that the world today is different than historically and thus our institutional frameworks must be much more dynamic and interdisciplinary to service our sustainable energy goals. ?? Energy system and financing planning must be undertaken together which is the central purpose of the Global Coalition for Energy Planning (GCEP) hosted by the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) and launched by #Brazil in the G20 in October 2024. ?? Hope is a sentiment we can choose, and energy access and resilience give hope its best chance.

With experts from the FAO, Sustainable Development Solutions Network, Climate Focus, and?EAT, as well as the NDC Partnership and representatives from multiple governments involved in the ACF, we explored: ? Why action on food systems must be integrated in next-generation NDCs due in 2025 ? What are the risks of missing critical shifts in agriculture practices & diets in climate plans ? How better coordination can unlock finance & technical support for countries Most countries have yet to submit revised NDCs—giving us a critical window to advocate for food systems integration.?
