The University Center for Economic Development is extremely excited to have helped formalize this new partnership between the University of Nevada, Reno and the Vallée de la Transition énergétique (VTE) as part of the University's recently designated Nevada Lithium Batteries and Other Electric Vehicle Materials Regional Technology and Innovation Hub (Nevada Tech Hub). Thanks to the high levels of research and development and student development being led by faculty from across the University's many colleges and academic units, the University of Nevada, Reno is recognized as a global leader in the emergence of a globally competitive lithium batteries, critical elements, and other EV materials industry sector. Today's signing ceremony of a new memorandum of understanding between the University and the VTE is also a testament to the hard work of the Nevada Tech Hub's diverse set of Consortium members, led by the core Consortium members of the Nevada Governor's Office of Economic Development (GOED), the Nevada Mining Association, and the Nevada Battery Coalition alongside the University along with over 85 individual public sector, private sector, and non-profit community-based organizational Consortium members. Thanks to the commitment of all of these Consortium members, Nevada is a global leader in this critical industry sector and key technology focus area, from extraction to processing to advanced manufacturing and to recycling! #EDATechHub #EDAUnivCenter

The University of Nevada, Reno held a signing ceremony today in recognition of its memorandum of understanding with Vallée de la Transition énergétique (VTE). The memorandum will foster cooperative relationships between the Nevada Lithium Batteries and Other Electric Vehicle Materials Regional Technology and Innovation Hub (Nevada Tech Hub) and the VTE, a collaborative proposal within Quebec dedicated to the development of energy sources such as batteries, the electrification of transport, hydrogen, and the decarbonization of industry and heavy transport. The agreement will support collaboration in the areas of teaching, research, faculty and student exchange, staff development and cultural exchange. Other planned activities will include the development and execution of a start-up exchange, joint research in the areas of recycling strategies, workforce training, and public safety, and academic programming. The Nevada Tech Hub, led by UNR UCED, part of the University of Nevada, Reno College of Business, was awarded approximately $21 million to lead initiatives to strengthen America’s lithium batteries, critical elements and other electric vehicle materials industry sectors within the state.
