Kicking off the 5th UNOSSC-UNDRR-PAHO Joint Training with 1000+ participants, UNOSSC Director Dima Al-Khatib underscored the power of #SouthSouth and #TriangularCooperation in disaster risk reduction. ? Under the China-UN South-South Facility, our collective ambition is to empower developing countries to exchange and co-develop adaptive technological solutions, and implement localized strategies for long-term resilience and sustainability, said the Director. ? 1,362 attendees from 142 countries, 44.9% women participated. The training was opened by UNOSSC Director Dima Al-Khatib, Piedad Huerta Arneros from PAHO, and UNDRR Head Kamal Kishore. ? Experts from the Quezon City, in The #Philippines, and Pudahuel Municipality, in #Chile, offered real-world solutions to build resilient communities, sharing practical lessons on disability-inclusive disaster risk reduction.

?? #CSW69: The #UNFSSC Global South-South Development Centre project, supported by #China, highlights the critical role of women in strengthening agricultural resilience. #SouthSouth pilots with World Food Programme and Instituto Interamericano de Cooperación para la Agricultura (IICA) have supported over 950 women farmers in C?te d'Ivoire and across Latin America and the Caribbean through technology transfer, capacity building, and knowledge sharing. The UNOSSC-WFP pilot on China-Africa rice value chain development is empowering women farmer groups through technology transfer and capacity building, with over 600 beneficiaries. The UNOSSC-IICA pilot supports over 350 women across 42 countries in LAC, through training on climate-smart agriculture, agronomic practices, and digital solutions.

??? Women-led businesses demonstrate strong commitment to sustainability and social impact. Yet, despite their potential, women entrepreneurs face disproportionate barriers, said UNOSSC Director Dima Al-Khatib during a #CSW69 panel titled “Baku Climate Coalition for SMEs' Green Transition: Women Empowerment”. ? The statistics tell a sobering story: women entrepreneurs globally face a total micro, small, or medium enterprise financing gap exceeding $1.7 trillion. Unless we make conscious efforts to include women, financial interventions miss the mark, said the Director. ? Through #SouthSouth policy dialogues, countries can learn from each other. UNOSSC’s digital platform #SouthSouthGalaxy facilitates the sharing of successful business models and lessons learned, reducing the learning curve for women entering green sectors. ? The panel was organized by the Statistical, Economic and Social Research and Training Centre for Islamic Countries (SESRIC), OIC Permanent Observer Mission to the UN, and the Small and Medium Business Development Agency (KOBIA) of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

??? #SouthSouthCooperation, when leveraging private sector innovation and resources, offers a pathway forward, said UNOSSC Director Dima Al-Khatib during the #IDEASCONF2025 session focusing on ‘Driving transformational change: Leveraging Evaluation and Partnerships for Development Impact’. ? The world faces a global “polycrisis” affecting human and economic development at an unprecedented scale. A much scaled up global effort is thus required to pursue efforts to address these challenges and accelerate inclusive socioeconomic development. ? We are witnessing an evolution in how #SouthSouth cooperation creates value, the Director said. Beyond traditional government-to-government exchanges, we are seeing dynamic private sector partnerships that bring together innovation, market expertise, and local knowledge.

We must capture the richness of peer learning and horizontal partnerships, said UNOSSC Director Dima Al-Khatib, during the keynote dialogue at NDB-IEO #IDEASCONF2025 exploring the role of multi-dimensional evaluation in driving policy influence and transformative impact. ? When one country shows another how they solved a problem, that knowledge transfer is invaluable - but it's also hard to measure with traditional metrics. This multiplication of impact through peer learning and adaptation is what our evaluation frameworks need to capture. ? Traditional metrics may label an agricultural development project "moderately successful"; but when we examine it through a #SouthSouth cooperation lens, we discover something deeper. That same project can catalyze an entire network of knowledge sharing among neighboring countries.
