  • ? Take me out to the ball game ? If you know that saying well, you know today is the official Opening Day for Major League Baseball – for most teams, that is! For the sixth time in its history, MLB staged a season opener in Japan March 18-19.?The Tokyo Series pit the Los Angeles Dodgers against the Chicago Cubs for?a pair of games at the Tokyo Dome. Besides the Cubs and Dodgers, 26 other teams celebrate Opening Day today. Originally, every team was slated to be in action today, however, the Rockies-Rays matchup was?moved back a day, to March 28. This was done to allow more time to prepare George M. Steinbrenner Field in Tampa, Fla., which is the Spring Training home of the Yankees, that will serve as the Rays' home park in 2025 due to the damage that Tropicana Field sustained during Hurricane Milton last October. Click through the PDF to view a map of the 2024 population estimates for each team’s metropolitan statistical areas (MSA) and table of the top 60 MSAs with MLB teams. Helpful tip for those viewing on a desktop/laptop??hover over the image, click the four corners icon in the bottom right corner to view the pages full screen. For those viewing on a smartphone or tablet just tap on the image to view larger. Fun Facts: - There are 26 MSAs with MLB teams in the United States – three have two teams (Chicago, New York, and Los Angeles) – and one in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. - The largest being New York with 19,940,274 (coming in at #1). - The smallest being Milwaukee with 1,574,452 (coming in at #40). - By comparison, the Omaha metro area comes in at #55 with 1,001,010. Find everything you need to know about Opening Day 2025 ?? https://lnkd.in/gNkSxZSn The following facts are possible thanks to the invaluable responses to U.S. Census Bureau surveys. • ?? Today we commemorate this day which celebrates all things Irish and present to you a variety of U.S. Census Bureau statistics on Irish-Americans ?? The U.S. Congress designated March as Irish American Heritage Month in 1991 and the president issues a proclamation commemorating the occasion each year. Originally a religious holiday to honor St. Patrick who introduced Christianity to Ireland in the 5th century, St. Patrick’s Day has evolved into a celebration of all things Irish. The world’s first St. Patrick’s Day parade occurred on March 17, 1762, in New York City, featuring Irish soldiers who served in the English military. • Happy National Pi Day! No, that is not a typo (pie), we are talking about the number pi. The first six digits of pi (π) are 3.14159, which means a good time to celebrate is March 14 (3/14) at 1:59 (A.M./P.M.). Pi is infinitely long, a never-ending number. On March 14, 2009, the U.S. House of Representatives declared March 14 National Pi Day. They also declared the House of Representatives recognizes the continuing importance of the National Science Foundation’s math and science education programs and encourages schools and educators to observe the day with appropriate activities that teach students about Pi and engage them about the study of mathematics. On this National Pi Day, we are sharing the number of civilian employed population 16 years and older working in computer, engineering, and science occupations in the United States compared to Nebraska and broken down by gender. The following facts are possible thanks to the invaluable responses to U.S. Census Bureau surveys. • The U.S. Census Bureau released population estimates for county- and metro-level data today, building on the December release of state-level numbers which showed Nebraska exceeding the 2 million milestone. The latest numbers show growth across Nebraska which is exciting and reflects long-term efforts to bring prosperity to communities statewide. The revised methodology for international migration in this latest release reflects growth in many areas that were likely larger in the past, which indicates data is being captured more accurately now. A few highlights of the mid-2023 to mid-2024 data: ?? Omaha metro area of eight counties surpassed the million-person mark ?? 48 of Nebraska’s 93 counties gained population ?? On average, a county in Nebraska attracted 81 foreign-born newcomers, compared to an average of 59 the year prior ?? Some of the state’s smallest counties had the highest percentage increases in population like Blaine (5.3% increase) and Logan (5% increase) — in both the new people came largely from elsewhere in Nebraska or another state ?? The biggest percentage loss of residents was Thomas County (6.1% or 41 people) and Sioux County (4.5% or 52 people) Read the Nebraska Examiner article for CPAR's full analysis of the data ?? https://lnkd.in/g43DCnAC #unocpar #NebraskaByTheNumbers #CensusData #NebraskaData #PopulationData
