SKU stands for: “Stock Keeping Unit” and it represents a number that retailers use to differentiate products and track inventory levels. Every color and size of every product in your line will have its own SKU number, which often correlates to its unique barcode for scanning at a warehouse or at a cash register. A start-up apparel brand might only have one product in their line, but offer it in three colorways and seven different sizes. Pretty quickly, you end up with 21 unique SKUs to track and maintain. Last week, we had the opportunity to speak to the fashion internship class at @coloradostateuniversity in Fort Collins, Colorado. We chatted all about building successful careers in the fashion industry, what it's like in the real world vs. the classroom and how to research and negotiate their first salary. Being back in the classroom and back on a design school campus was so much fun for me. It brought back so many good days when I was going to school @uofcincy @uc_daap for my own Fashion Design degree. I loved my college years and have always said that I'd be a life-long student if I could do it for free! haha We're already making plans to head back up for more days on site with the students in November, and I'm starting to figure out what it could look like to visit my old alum next time I'm home for a visit.
