Throughout the apparel industry, each company is focused on a specific group or ideal person to design and develop for. Some brands do this incredibly well, while others fall short. I’ve been an employee at both types of these companies, and the ones who have a very clear picture of their target consumer are the ones that succeed faster and with more ease. If you have your customers’ specific needs in mind at all times, then it becomes easier to know what they like, what they want to wear, how they want to wear it, and how they want to shop for it. In today's newsletter, I'm sharing the top categories I like to define in a customer profile: Age, Gender, Location, Mindset, Education, Career, Annual Salary, Hobbies, Size Range, and Issues to Solve. #apparelindustry #targetcustomer #fashionindustry

Have you ever decided to work with a contractor for a home renovation project, and went with the lowest bidder to save a little money? This is exactly what my husband and I did over a decade ago when we wanted to build out an outdoor patio in our backyard. We couldn’t believe the quote was so low, until we started working with them on the project... Check out this week's Newsletter Article from Unmarked Street and The Business of Apparel to read more about why it's worth it to pay a little extra for a high end contractor.

SKU stands for: “Stock Keeping Unit” and it represents a number that retailers use to differentiate products and track inventory levels. Every color and size of every product in your line will have its own SKU number, which often correlates to its unique barcode for scanning at a warehouse or at a cash register. A start-up apparel brand might only have one product in their line, but offer it in three colorways and seven different sizes. Pretty quickly, you end up with 21 unique SKUs to track and maintain. Check out this week's full Newsletter Article to find out why it's so important to set up SKU Rationalization reviews at your brand every year! _________________________________ Looking for help to execute elite apparel development processes like this? Struggling to hit target costs at your brand? Do you keep dropping styles because you can't afford them once you receive your factory quotes? Let's fix this issue for you right now... ____________________ Once you have a target cost from your product manager, there are several ways to reverse engineer your design into their pricing structure. Considering the cost for every garment detail one-by-one is one of the best practices I’ve ever seen executed in the apparel industry. The designers who spend time with their developers and production managers to do these exercises in initial design stages are by far the best at their craft. Check out this week's Newsletter to read through a real-world example of how this works and how we can help you afford all of your designs. #apparel #fashion #design ____________________ Looking for help to execute elite apparel development processes like this?
