Nearly 30% of cancers are curable if detected early, yet low- and middle-income countries have limited access to early cancer care. Organizations such as Lwala Community Alliance, Project ECHO, Black Mamas Matter Alliance, Inc. (BMMA), Urban Institute, AFRICAN AMERICAN BREASTFEEDING NETWORK INC, Children's Wisconsin and others are making strides in maternal health to make sure that every baby has a healthy start. To close this week’s spotlight on ECHO’s diabetes work, we share Jessica Kirk’s story. Kirk is an endocrinology nurse manager at The University of New Mexico, and she is living with diabetes. Growing up in rural New Mexico, Kirk did not have access to community-based diabetes care, which inspired her to become a nurse and join the New Mexico Endocrinology ECHO program. As an ECHO-trained provider, she brings life-changing diabetes treatment strategies to rural and underserved communities.
